LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer of 'Top Gun', shares insights into the storyline and production schedule for the third rendition of the movie, according to ScreenRant.

Joseph Kosinski's 'Top Gun: Maverick', a sequel to Tony Scott's original 1986 film, was released in 2022 and grossed a whopping $1.4 billion.

Following this extraordinary success, a third installment is said to be in the works, featuring Tom Cruise who will be reprising his role as Maverick, alongside Miles Teller as Rooster and Glen Powell as Hangman.

Tom Cruise 'likes' story idea of 'Top Gun 3'

When asked whether Glen Powell will be taking over, Bruckheimer said, “It will be Tom Cruise. Tom is amazing. We spent time with him. We have a story. Joe Kosinski had a wonderful story idea for it, and he (Tom Cruise) said I really like that, so we’re developing it."

"But you never know when it’s going to get made because Tom is so busy. He’s doing 'Mission: Impossible' right now, he’s got a picture after it. Hopefully, we’ll get a screenplay that he loves, and we’ll be back in the air again.”

In terms of the storyline, 'Top Gun 3’s plot still seems a mystery. Especially considering that the conclusion of 'Top Gun: Maverick' didn't overtly lay the groundwork for a sequel. However, it did leave sufficient threads for a potential follow-up to emerge.

Just like the initial movies, the third installment is anticipated to center around a fresh mission that features Maverick and his fellow 'Top Gun' aviators back into action.

In case the same writing team works behind the sequel, fans can anticipate a script of similar caliber. In the past, 'Top Gun: Maverick' got an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, a remarkable achievement in the realm of action cinema.

Internet reacts to news about 'Top Gun 3'

When a blockbuster like 'Top Gun' has a potential sequel, fans are bound to express their anticipation, and so they did as the following comments demonstrate.

An X user wrote, “Top Gun 3…bring it on!”

Another fan praising Tom’s brilliance said, “Tom Cruise said he really liked [it], so we're developing it” well damn that was easy."

Continuing the praises for the movie, a fan wrote, “Of course they'll make more the previous film was a colossal hit.”

There were, however, a few users who were not too keen about the idea of a sequel.

One user wrote, “Not sure how I feel about this. They struck box office gold with two Top Gun films, but they were decades apart and had a major nostalgia boost. A third film isn't going to have that. But I don't want to doubt Tom Cruise's quality control at this point in his legendary career.”

Sharing similar sentiments, another user wrote, “3 kinda pushing it."
