Iran hammers US allies with missiles and drones as Gulf air defenses shoot down hundreds
DUBAI, UAE: Iran continued firing missiles and drones at US allies in the Persian Gulf on Friday, March 6, despite ongoing US and Israeli strikes aimed at degrading Tehran’s launch capabilities.
Air raid sirens reportedly sounded in Kuwait City hours after the Iranian Army claimed it had launched “a large volume of Army attack drones” targeting what it described as US positions in Kuwait.
UAE intercepts missiles and drones amid rising attacks
The United Arab Emirates said its air defenses intercepted multiple incoming threats during the latest wave of attacks.
In a statement shared on social media, the UAE’s Ministry of Defense said it had “detected and intercepted nine ballistic missiles.” It added that 112 drones were detected, of which 109 were intercepted, while three fell within UAE territory.
The ministry said that since the beginning of the Iranian attacks, 205 ballistic missiles had been tracked. Of those, 190 were destroyed, 13 fell into the sea, and two impacted within UAE territory.
It also reported that 1,184 Iranian drones had been detected since the start of hostilities, with 1,110 intercepted and 74 falling on UAE soil. Eight cruise missiles were also detected and destroyed.
The UAE said earlier this week that Iranian strikes had killed three people - Pakistani, Nepali and Bangladeshi nationals- and injured at least 112 others with minor wounds.
The Ministry of Defense said that it remained “fully prepared and ready to respond to any threats, protect national security and sovereignty, and ensure the safety and stability of the country.”
Fresh Iranian missile launch toward Israel
Iran also launched another missile barrage toward Israel on Friday, according to the Israeli military, shortly after it announced a new round of strikes targeting Iranian regime facilities in Tehran.
The Israel Defense Forces said that it had detected missiles “recently launched from Iran toward the territory of the State of Israel,” adding that air defense systems were working to intercept the threat.
Authorities urged residents to follow alerts issued by Israel’s Home Front Command directly to mobile phones in affected areas.
While the majority of Iranian missiles and drones aimed at Israel have been intercepted, some have penetrated the country’s air defenses.
At least 10 people have been killed by Iranian weapons that slipped through interception systems, and three others have died in related incidents, according to data compiled by the Israeli Institute for National Security Studies.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Republic’s health ministry said more than 1,200 people had been killed in Iran over the past seven days during the ongoing US-Israeli strikes on Iranian targets.
