Iran threatens US strikes will result in 'complete halt' of diplomatic talks
TEHRAN, IRAN: The attacks and counterattacks between the US and Iran have once again escalated, risking the fragile ceasefire. Iran on Sunday, June 28, threatened to enforce a “complete halt” to all negotiations that would end the conflict with the US.
The exchange of assaults continues to intensify as Iran said that it had launched a series of retaliatory strikes on US military sites in Kuwait and Bahrain on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.
US-Iran hostilities escalate after Strait of Hormuz attacks
After a series of attacks were reported on US infrastructure in Kuwait and Bahrain, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the attacks and accused the US of violating the terms of the recently agreed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the US and Iran.
The IRGC stated that any more US strikes “will result in the complete halt of all diplomatic processes.”
The fresh hostilities began after Iranian forces launched drone attacks on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, which US officials cited as the trigger for the renewed fighting.
American forces responded with waves of airstrikes targeting Iranian military surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, drone storage facilities, and air-defense sites.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Saturday that it had carried out more strikes on Iranian targets following an attack on a Panama-flagged tanker near the Strait of Hormuz.
Bahrain and Kuwait confirm attacks by Iran
The Kuwaiti military said that it had detected and intercepted Iranian drones and two ballistic missiles.
According to the Interior Ministry of Bahrain, Iran targeted an eight-story residential building near the airport, destroying the top floor. However, no deaths were reported.
Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry called the attack “a dangerous escalation that reveals that what Tehran is doing is not a passing act, nor an isolated incident, but rather a deliberate approach and a systemic pattern of repeated aggression.”
Trump accuses Iran of violating ceasefire
President Trump also accused Iran of violating the ceasefire agreement in the MOU in his latest threat against the Islamic regime.
“United States aircraft just struck Iranian missile and drone storage locations, and coastal radar sites, for violating the Cease Fire Agreement, AGAIN!” he wrote on Saturday on Truth Social.
“It is very possible that they will never learn! There may come a point when we are no longer able to be reasonable, and will be forced to militarily complete the job that we very successfully started. If that happens, the Islamic Republic of Iran will no longer exist,” he added.
