Kaya Jones thinks something 'horrific' happened to Melissa Schuman who accused ex Nick Carter of assault
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter’s ex-girlfriend Kaya Jones says she believes “something horrific” must have happened to rape accuser Melissa Schuman.
Pussycat Dolls' member Jones - who dated Carter in 2004 and 2005, opened up in the Investigation Discovery's docuseries, ‘Fallen Idols: Nick And Aaron Carter’, and revealed she reached out to Schuman when she came out with the allegations in 2017.
Kaya Jones supports Nick Carter’s accusers
The docuseries, releasing on Monday, May 27, brings out the narratives of some of the women involved in Nick’s life including Kaya Jones, Ashley Repp, and Melissa Schuman. Among them, Schuman and Repp accused Nick of raping them.
Schuman, a member of the American girl group Dream, accused the 44-year-old singer of raping her in his Santa Monica apartment in 2003, per Daily Mail.
Speaking directly to the camera, Jones shared, “Nick Carter was my boyfriend when I was in the Pussycat Dolls, and I saw the very detailed allegation about Nick and the response.”
The 39-year-old songstress shared, “It bothered me. Because it was discrediting this girl [Schuman]. So I wanted to hear what Melissa had to say.”
When Schuman came out with her side of the story, Jones claimed she saw a “young woman trying to speak and someone who thought he had more power and authority to try to shut her up.”
Schuman later appeared on the series and admitted that she spoke with Jones for hours and that “Kaya was so kind.” She added, “I think we must’ve spoken for hours. I needed someone to tell me that my life wasn’t over.”
She also texted Nick after the incident and warned him then that she was “no longer keeping” his secrets.
Jones added, “He knows what I know. He knows why I left him. So do I believe that something horrific happened to that girl? Yes, yes I do.”
She also admitted that while Nick was “never physically violent” with her, “He would punch walls. He could get very angry. Nick was very good at messing with your head. He liked to control everything. So if anyone called my phone, he got really jealous. He broke my phone once like a temper tantrum like a child.”
Nick Carter denied allegations
In a statement to Page Six in 2017, Carter denied the allegations, and said, “I am shocked and saddened by Ms Schuman’s accusations."
He continued, "Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since that anything we did was not consensual. We went on to record a song and perform together, and I was always respectful and supportive of Melissa both personally and professionally."
"This is the first that I am hearing about these accusations, nearly two decades later. It is contrary to my nature and everything I hold dear to intentionally cause someone discomfort or harm," he continued.
