'It felt like magic': 'DWTS' pro Britt Stewart gets engaged to 'CODA' actor Daniel Durant after dating for months

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Britt Stewart and Daniel Durant are ready to dance their way to the altar.

The 'Dancing with the Stars' pro and the 'CODA' actor announced their engagement on Instagram, sharing photos of their romantic proposal in the mountains, captioning it 'Forever.'

The couple, who met on the dance floor of 'DWTS' season 31, opened up to People about their love story and their wedding plans.

Durant, who is deaf, revealed that he asked Stewart to marry him in front of her mother, stepfather, and other friends and family members atop a mountain.

He said he was the last one to speak and he got emotional as he recounted their journey together. “I was the last one — and I started talking about the year, about us meeting and everything that happens in life," he said.

"I just feel like there’s balance. She sees me. She knows my culture, my language, and understands everything about me,” he futher said, adding that he started “welling up” in that moment.

Stewart, 34, said she was also overcome with emotion and felt a sense of peace and joy. “We were both emotional, overwhelmed with joy and at peace knowing that this would eventually be part of our story,” she said, adding “It felt like magic, but at the same time, it felt right and normal.”

The pair first crossed paths on 'DWTS' season 31 in 2022 when Stewart was paired with Durant as his dance partner. Stewart, who has hearing problems, learned American Sign Language so they could communicate without an interpreter.

They impressed the judges and the viewers with their chemistry and skills, finishing fifth in the competition. However, they did not start dating until after they were eliminated from the show.

They confirmed their relationship in February 2023 with some sweet Valentine’s Day posts on social media. "My Valentine,” Durant wrote on Instagram, while Stewart gushed, “Happy Valentine’s Day!”

The couple, who now live together with their two cats, said they have not thought much about their wedding details yet. They only know that they want to have their closest family and friends by their side when they exchange their vows.

“Looking at the wedding, we want people who know about our lives who can witness and celebrate with us and share the love that we have for everyone,” Durant said.

“It’s about celebrating together so that’s what I think our wedding will be,” he added. Stewart agreed saying they want to enjoy each step of their engagement. “We also want to enjoy each step of it, and now we’re just enjoying our engagement,” she said.
