NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Actress Bryce Dallas Howard joined co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin to talk about her new movie, 'Argylle,' on the January 31 episode of 'The View.'

Presented as a spy comedy, the synopsis for the film on IMDb reads, "A reclusive author who writes espionage novels about a secret agent and a global spy syndicate realizes the plot of the new book she's writing starts to mirror real-world events, in real-time."

Avoiding spoilers for audiences

The conversation with the actress on the topic of the film was a tough one to navigate for the co-hosts, as Haines stated, "We're pretty much sworn to secrecy, so I kept asking the producer, 'Can I mention...' and she goes 'Probably better not.' I go, 'So what can I say?"

"One thing I would say is (that) it's a theatre masterpiece. We sometimes have to watch things on smaller screens, (but) I will definitely want to see this again on a big screen because it's a masterpiece visually, aesthetically," she continued.

She proceeded to ask the actress what she could tell the audience about her film, who responded that she appreciated Haines' effort, before sharing the synopsis of the film.

Griffin broached the subject of the conspiracy theory, saying, "'Argylle' is based on a book supposedly written by a spy novelist called Elly Conway. But there is a conspiracy theory making rounds that Elly Conway is actually a pseudonym for Taylor Swift."

"Another great example of how amazing fans can be when there is a lot of enthusiasm," quickly stated Howard. "But it's really important, because Taylor Swift is an icon who works, very, very, very hard on all things that she creates, and we would never want to take credit for anything that she wasn't part of."

"So, yes, Taylor Swift did not write 'Argylle,' but none of us really have a full understanding of the mystery around Elly Conway," she went on.

"Matthew Vaughn, who is the director, his daughter heard about this theory about Taylor Swift and rushed into his room, and was like, 'Why did you not tell me that Taylor Swift wrote 'Argylle,' dad?'... and he was like, 'Pardon?' and went online and saw this," shared the star.

"It makes sense though," she added of the theory, mentioning that Swift wears a lot of argyle (clothing pattern), and the director discovered a picture of her with a cat backpack, something that Conway carries in the film.
