HOUSTON, TEXAS: Black metal band Martyrdom may have pushed the envelope a bit too far in an attempt to add "shock value" to their performance.

The band has drawn criticism from fans on social media following a recent show where they tossed around a severed pig's head.

The incident occurred at a gig at the White Swan in Houston, Texas last Friday.

Martyrdom's controversial stunt at gig

In what many are calling a misguided move, one of the band members brought a severed pig's head to the show and proceeded to throw it around the room. The shocking scene was captured on video. The band has since apologized for the stunt, acknowledging that it may have backfired.

In the footage shared by TMZ, the severed head is flung from the center of a circle into the crowd, amidst shrieks and deafening music.

A snapshot of the head presents a rather horrifying sight to be hurled towards anyone. As for the reaction on social media, it was decidedly negative.

The band members are facing a significant backlash for their stunt, with some accusing them of animal cruelty.

Highlights on Martyrdom’s Instagram page reveal that a pig’s head was tossed around at an earlier show as well. However, the circulation of the video from the more recent show has drawn much more attention to it. Consequently, Martyrdom has issued an official apology.

They expressed that their gimmick escalated beyond their control and they had no intention of causing offense.

They extended their apologies to "vegans, Muslims, or other minority groups" who might have been offended, as well as anyone who was "harmed" during the act.

At this stage, it remains uncertain whether the pig's head caused any injuries.

Their apology, as reported by Lambgoat, states, "Hi everyone. we just want to start off by saying we are incredibly sorry to anyone we offended with our actions and gimmicks on stage."

The statement went on, "We are a black metal band, and as part of it, we try to add a little bit of imagery and shock value to our set. Unfortunately our acts has gotten carried away and way out of hand, offending many and even harming some."

"We want to apologize to any vegans, Muslims, or other minority groups we may have offended, and to anyone who was harmed by our act."

"Most importantly we want to apologize to the White Swan, and Harry, the sound guy, specifically. thank you so much white swan for giving us the opportunity to play there."

Internet reacts to Martyrdom's recent act

An X user tweeted, "The liberal agenda strikes again."

"Its real and it stinks," remarked another.

One person noted, "The way I’ve seen this exact thing happen multiple times makes me so."

"Yeah I was thinking severed pig head really seems like more of a death metal thing 🤷", said a Reddit user.

One user wrote, "I don't know, pig heads can be pretty damn heavy. Is sort of dangerous to throw them around."

"The band should change its name to Angry Birds," stated another.
