Johnny Depp fans disheartened as 'Pirates of the Caribbean' producer hints at reboot without him
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Social media went wild recently when the producer behind the beloved 'Pirates of the Caribbean' series hinted at a possible reboot. Fans were left wondering if Johnny Depp would reprise his role in the next film of the franchise, sparking a frenzy online.
Adding fuel to the fire, Depp's former co-star from 'Blow', Lola Glaudini, recently stirred controversy by recalling the first day of the shooting and allegedly accused Depp of verbally berating her on set.
Speculation about Depp's return as Jack Sparrow isn't new, as fans have previously pressurized the producers to bring back the iconic character.
'Pirates of the Caribbean' set for a reboot
Seven years have passed since the last 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movie, 'Dead Men Tell No Tales,' graced theaters in 2017.
Fans of the beloved pirate series are eagerly awaiting news about the next installment, and recently, the producer gave an update on the franchise's future, according to Comicbook.com.
Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the first five movies, spoke to Comicbook.com while promoting his new film 'The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,' shedding light on the much-anticipated sixth installment of 'Pirates of the Caribbean.'
Bruckheimer expressed uncertainty about the return of the original cast, saying, "It's hard to tell. You don't know, you really don't know. You don't know how they come together."
Drawing a parallel to another franchise he's involved with, 'Top Gun' starring Tom Cruise, Bruckheimer hinted at challenges in reuniting past cast members, stating, "You just don't know. Because with Top Gun you have an actor who is iconic and brilliant. And how many movies he does before he does Top Gun, I can't tell you. But we're gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don't have to wait for certain actors."
This statement sparked speculation that Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley, and Orlando Bloom may not reprise their roles as Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swann, and Will Turner, respectively, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Additionally, the Daily Mail noted that Margot Robbie was previously linked to a female-led reboot of 'Pirates of the Caribbean,' although she stated in a 2022 Vanity Fair interview that Disney shredded the project.
Despite reported tensions with the studio due to his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, a source close to Depp told People Magazine last year that the actor is open to returning as Jack Sparrow for the 'right project.'
