DES MOINES, IOWA: As the Iowa caucuses draw near, former President Donald Trump has kicked off the new year with rallies alongside his supporters. In a recent speech, Trump addressed President Xi of China, prompting a response from MSNBC's Joe Scarborough.

'Morning Joe' on MSNBC aired a clip of Trump speaking in Iowa, prompting Scarborough to question whether people in Des Moines "love dictators." Following the MSNBC anchor's reaction to Trump, the internet quickly chimed in as well.

Joe Scarborough takes a dig at Donald Trump

Initially, 'Morning Joe' aired a clip of Donald Trump in Iowa, where he remarked, "Somebody asked me, is President Xi of China...he controls 1.4 billion people...ruthlessly. No games, right?"

"They said, is President Xi of China a brilliant man? I said, yes, he is, he's a brilliant man. The next day, Trump reiterated that President Xi was brilliant, stating, 'Yeah, I did. They want me to say, no, he's not a very smart guy. He just runs 1.4 billion people with an iron fist. It's crazy.'"

After the clip played, Joe Scarborough responded and said, “Yeah, it is crazy, Donald. That's just his latest praise for a dictator, just a small sample…from his crazy comments in Iowa. Now we're exactly one week away from the caucuses there. The question is, do they really love dictators in Des Moines?”

“Donald Trump has just said he thinks the world of President Xi. Ruthlessly, he says it twice. Ruthlessly, he runs 1.4 billion people, ruthlessly, no apologies there."

"He doesn’t mess around. It's like talking about his love letters to Kim Jong-Un, talking about what a wonderful leader he is. We all know about Vladimir Putin. He goes on and on and on. The question is, we know Donald Trump loves dictators. We know he admires dictators,” added Scarborough.

Scarborough then asked, “The question is, is that really where Republicans want to continue taking their party?’

One user wrote, “lol dude is running for president, not dictator," and another wrote, "God bless President Trump."

"Morning Joe, an arm of the Democratic Party in charge of negative press," wrote one user, and another wrote, "Name-calling. It's all you've got, Joe."

People continued to weigh in on Scarborough's statements against Trump as one user wrote, "Morning Joe sucks," and another wrote, "Morning Joe is Crap. Nobody watches. Nobody watches CNN except in airports..."
