'It's ethereal': Internet swoons over Gigi Hadid's 2024 Met Gala corset gown which took over 13,500 hours to create

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Gigi Hadid embodied the "Garden of Time" theme at the Met Gala 2024 with her white off-the-shoulder Thom Browne gown adorned with rose details.

With a subtle updo and rosy beauty, including a vivid red lip, the 29-year-old supermodel evoked the grandeur of Hollywood's bygone eras as she ascended the iconic steps of New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Hadid's captivating dress included an attached train that she had to fluff out while posing on the red carpet, requiring roughly five handlers. The train included more yellow roses with thorn appliques, just like the top of her dress, and an odd design that made it resemble a tuxedo jacket with sleeves. 

According to Vogue, the dress took over 70 workers and over 13,500 hours to produce by hand, which was no less than an accomplishment.

An embroidery crew of 40 workers needed more than 8,500 hours to complete the huge skirt on the outer layer alone. Meanwhile, another group of 20 artisans worked for 5,000 hours to meticulously embroider 2.8 million tiny bugle beads onto the corset dress.

The extravagant gown will be kept in Browne's permanent archive after the Met Gala, per the outlet.

Talking about his experience of working with Hadid, Browne said, "It’s always a privilege to watch Gigi come to life. She is a true talent that shines at whatever she does."

"I wanted her look to embody the fragility and immense work that you see in Andrew [Bolton]’s exhibit, blooming on the carpet and into The Metropolitan Museum of Art," noted the designer about his creation. 

"Just one rose on my outfit in itself is a work of art, and the amount of hours and people’s work that went into this dress is just incredible," told Gigi to Vogue of the outfit.

Before she got to ascend the Met Gala steps, the supermodel was spotted handing out yellow roses to fans outside her hotel before heading to the event, as per PEOPLE Magazine.
