'Original mean girl': Barbra Streisand trolled for casually asking Melissa McCarthy if she's on Ozempic

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Barbra Streisand left followers stunned after publicly questioning Melissa McCarthy about her use of Ozempic in a scathing Instagram comment on Monday, April 29.

McCarthy, 53, attracted Streisand's attention when she shared a photo of herself and friend Adam Shankman, 59, at CTG's The Gala 2024 at the Ahmanson Theatre on April 28 in Los Angeles.

The Oscar-nominated actress captioned the post, "Pastels only to honor the incredible @matthewbourne13 at the @ctgla gala last night with this fella @adamshankman !! Thiiiiis much closer to my dream of dancing on stage"

In response, Streisand, 82, posted a since-deleted comment, "Give him my regards did you take Ozempic?" The EGOT-winning artist immediately received scores of comments criticizing the question before she deleted the comment.

Supporters expressed their shock and disbelief right away.  One said, "Wow really! What happened to not talking about bodies! As a mother of a daughter that’s not ok we as women need to not focus on appearance."

Some said Hollywood is obsessed with looks and critics called the question rude and degrading. Others called Streisand tone-deaf and praised McCarthy for her beauty.

Melissa has previously shared the difficulties and changes in her perspective that she had while navigating her weight journey.

The 'Bridesmaids' actress has had fluctuations in her weight loss; in 2003, she shed 70 pounds by following an all-liquid diet in preparation for her role in 'Gilmore Girls.' "I’d never do that again. I felt starved and crazy half the time," McCarthy stated to PEOPLE in 2011.

Speaking on CBS This Morning in June 2015, McCarthy claimed that at that point she had "truly stopped worrying" about her weight.

In March 2016, McCarthy told Extra that there was "nothing to tell" or "no trick" to shedding 50 pounds. "Just super boring life. You bring it real down, you don't do anything fun and you go to bed at 7.30 - that's the trick," McCarthy remarked.
