‘It’s not affordable’: Barack Obama gets slammed as he highlights how ACA benefits young adults

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former President Barack Obama took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, March 26, to emphasize the benefit of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) for young adults in the United States.

He recently celebrated the 14th anniversary of the landmark healthcare legislation on Saturday, March 23, with incumbent Joe Biden, who often brings up the subject in his bid for re-election.

Obama shared a clip on X, where he states, "Before the ACA, young adults could be kicked off their parent's health care plan. Often, right when they were getting ready to head out on their own. And if you had a pre-existing condition, the same companies could deny you coverage, they could charge you more. So the ACA changed all that."

"Now, health care plans are required to let young adults stay on their parents' plan until they're 26. Insurance companies, they can't deny somebody coverage or change them simply because they have a pre-existing condition like diabetes or asthma."

"So all that stuff's important because while young people are generally pretty healthy, all it takes is one diagnosis, one injury, one accident to throw off your plans if you don't have insurance," he continues.

"Thanks to the ACA, young people everywhere have some security. They have the freedom to choose how they live their lives."

The former president brings up the upcoming election and puts his stance on the ACA into perspective, warning that the freedom provided by the ACA should not be taken for granted.

"Right now, the presumptive nominee for the Republican Party for president says he wants to repeal the entirety of the ACA, and that would mean kicking millions of young people off their parent's health insurance, raising costs at a time when a lot of folks are just starting out," he said, slamming Donald Trump.

"We can't let that happen. We've got to keep building on the ACA, expanding coverage, lowering costs for more people. We've gone too far to come back," he adds, before endorsing Biden and his VP Kamala Harris as champions of the cause.

In the accompanying text of the post, Obama noted healthcare not being a privilege but a right.

"When Obama passed the ACA, he guaranteed healthcare would be unaffordable for all. Look at medical prices and insurance prices since. It’s communism. Everyone has coverage now, but can’t afford the deductible. Isn’t it great!!!" wrote another, sarcastically.

"You sold out the middle class to big insurance. Period," jibed a third.

"Uhm no. It raised premiums and copays and fined those who couldn’t afford it. Also, majority of insurance companies covered dependents until the age of 25…" noted a fourth.

"Unconstitutional Obamacare is one of America's worst pieces of legislation and has caused insurance to MORE THAN DOUBLE since it was fraudulently passed. Hard to believe people still talk about it," claimed a fifth.
