WASHINGTON, DC: House Intelligence Committee Chair Mike Turner claimed that the United States was facing its "highest level of a possible terrorist threat."

The Republican made the stark warning during his appearance on CBS News' 'Face the Nation' on Sunday, June 16, in response to host Margaret Brennan's questions about the recent arrests of several people who were allegedly linked to The Islamic State, as per The Hill.

Turner, however, couldn't confirm any details about the arrests when Brennan asked if there was an "active terror plot" against the US.

Mike Turner blames open borders for terrorist threat against the US

"What's important about these reports and what we're seeing, especially in conjunction with Director Wray's public statements, that we are at the highest level of a possible terrorist threat, that the administration's policies have absolutely directly related to threats to Americans," said the Ohio Republican, mentioning FBI Director Christopher Wray.

He added that the threats were "no longer speculative" and "not longer hypothetical."

Turner emphasized the warning, noting that actual administrative officials were coming ahead, and that the House Intelligence Committee and its members agreed with the intelligence they received.

He then criticized the President Joe Biden's administration, claiming the current border policies allowed people to cross the border without being vetted, which contributed to the threat.

"We have terrorists that are actively working … inside the United States that are a threat to Americans," added the House Republican.

Earlier this month, FBI Director Wray said to the Senate Committee that the nation has seen "threats from foreign terrorists rise to a whole nother level after October 7." In light of the escalating Israel-Hamas conflict, Wray noted that the FBI was "working around the clock to identify and disrupt potential attacks by those inspired by Hamas."

The worsening situation at the southern border that led to illegal migrants entering the US in record numbers took center stage in the 2024 presidential election between Biden and former President Donald Trump.

Internet reacts as House Intelligence Committee Chair Mike Turner says the US is facing 'highest terror threat possible'

Some netizens mirrored Turner's argument and accused the Biden administration's border policies of being the reason behind the rising terrorist threat, while another group blamed Trump's MAGA movement and Republicans.

One said, "Because of Bidens open borders," and another wrote, "The biggest terrorist threat in the US today is from MAGAts."

"Someone should tell Biden and Mayorkas. They have opened the border," argued a person, while someone else noted, "If by terrorists he means white conservatives with ar15s outfitted with bump stocks."

An individual commented, "Mike Turner is the republican chair of the House intelligence committee. What threat is he talking about? The only threat to America is Donald J. Trump and the republican party."

"Well the borders been open for three years now, no surprise here," stated one more.

Another person wrote, "Millions of invaders Zero border security Yeah. Brilliant deduction," and a netizen added, "Thanks to MAGA."
