WASHINGTON, DC: Former Minnesota Gov Jesse Ventura announced his endorsement for Vice President Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential race during his interview on CNN on Friday, August 9.

"I want to see a woman president. It's time for a woman president. We men have screwed it up enough," the former wrestler turned politician declared, extending his support to Harris and her running mate, incumbent Minnesota Gov Tim Walz.

Ventura, who led the North Star State from 1999 to 2003, is an independent voter who was a part of Robert F Kennedy Jr's camp. His name was floated as Kennedy's potential running mate earlier this year, according to The Hill.

Jesse Ventura touted his unapologetic endorsement for the Harris-Walz ticket, pointing out he was "selfish."

"A few years ago I got the opportunity to see the United States elect its first black president. I didn't think that could ever happen, and they even reelected him," Ventura said, referring to former President Barack Obama. "Well, now I'm gonna be selfish again."

The 44th President was the first African-American to be in the Oval Office in the history of the United States when he won the 2008 presidential race against Republican Sen John McCain. He secured a second term in 2012, defeating Mitt Romney.

"I've only got a few elections to go. I'm 73 years old now so the windows closing. I want to be alive to see the first woman president of the United States of America and the first woman commander in chief, and we've got her right now," Ventura added, sharing his wish to witness Harris winning in November.

However, this is not the first time Ventura threw his support behind a Democrat. He endorsed Harris's running mate, Walz, for his gubernatorial reelection in 2022.

The retired wrestler-turned-Minnesota governor, who ran under the Reform Party ticket, took an unprecedented step by endorsing the incumbent via a video message. He cited Walz's condemnation of the January 6 insurrection and his stance on women's rights as key reasons for his support, according to CBS News.

Despite their eleventh-hour entry into the presidential race, the Harris-Walz ticket has put a neck-and-neck race against the Republican former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen JD Vance.

Internet split as Jesse Ventura endorses Kamala Harris for president of the US

Jesse Ventura's endorsement of Harris led to debate online. While one camp outrightly welcomed the need for a woman president to lead the country, another group criticized the ex-Minnesota governor for backing the Democratic ticket.

"Ventura backing Harris shows that the fight for history isn't just about politics—it's about legacy and breaking barriers," a user wrote.

Whereas another remarked, "This guys more delusional than Biden." [sic]

"We should never have been divided amongst ourselves to begin with, but patriarchy is quite blinding," added a user.

While another response read, "What a ridiculous premise."

"Been saying that all the while. Give a woman a chance. Old white men has a monopoly on the presidency. Time to reflect the diversity of our nation," an individual opined. [sic]

"Didn’t they dismiss him as a crazy conspiracy theorist not that long ago?" Someone else asked.

"That’s surprising. Well… he’s right. It’s past time for a woman president! Let’s do it," another user said.

On the other hand one remark read, "I thought Jesse was cool when he was an independent and a governor. He’s lost his mind now. He’s supporting the establishment. Go to hell Jesse." [sic]
