DETROIT, MICHIGAN: Vice President Kamala Harris addressed the press for the first time since her ascension to the role of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee nearly three weeks ago. Recently, she drew flak from Republicans, including GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate Sen JD Vance, for not taking questions from the press.

The Ohio senator also pulled out a bizarre stunt at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport's tarmac on August 7 to blast her. The opponents nearly crossed paths, and instead of talking to Harris, Vance went to her press pool and criticized the VP for dodging media appearances since stepping into President Joe Biden's shoes for the Democratic ticket.

In addition, Trump also lashed out at Harris over her refusal to speak to reporters. Writing on Truth Social, he claimed her lack of media engagements was due to her team's realization of her inability to answer questions like Biden. The real estate mogul also labeled his rival "incompetent."

Kamala Harris fields first press questions as Democratic nominee

Since Harris' historic nomination for the Democratic ticket, she met with the press on August 7, at a tarmac in Detroit, Michigan.

According to a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), the vice president walked towards the reporters with a pleasant smile. Removing her sunglasses, she asked, "Whatcha got?"

Politico White House correspondent Eugene Daniels reported in a series of X posts of her interaction with the press pool.

Regarding a sit-down interview, Harris said, "I've talked to my team. I want us to get an interview scheduled before the end of the month."

Concerning a debate with Trump, she added, "Well, I'm glad that he's finally agreed to a debate on September 10." Harris also noted she was open to more debates.

During the press conference at his Mar-a-Lago Club, Trump flip-flopped on his earlier decision not to debate Harris and announced he would face his Democratic opponent on ABC News' September 10 debate.
