Jack Nicholson's ex Angelica Huston reveals his 'heartbreakingly sweet' gesture amid LA wildfire scare

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Anjelica Huston opened up about a touching moment with her ex, Jack Nicholson, during the January wildfires in Los Angeles.
The actress recalled receiving an unexpected call from Nicholson while evacuating from her ranch in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

Huston, 73, had been fleeing with her housekeeper and pets when she got the unexpected call, revealing a long-standing connection between the former couple.

While speaking to People, on April 10, Thursday, Huston shared that the “phone just rang out of nowhere,” as she was in the middle of evacuating her home.
“And it was him,” Huston continued. “It’s always a comfort when he calls," she added, referring to Nicholson.
Nicholson, 87, offered her his house while making sure she was safe.
Although she declined at the time, Huston admitted, “It was heartbreakingly sweet. I’ve gone back over it — several times in my head, and I think next time I’d accept the invitation.”

Huston had earlier told The Guardian about the danger she faced during the fires, saying, “My house almost burned down. It came very, very close.”
Huston also recalled why she stayed with Nicholson, saying, "I loved him."
Anjelica Huston on remaining with Jack Nicholson for long despite his infidelities
Huston and Nicholson were in a relationship from 1973 to 1990, working together on films like 'Prizzi’s Honor', 'The Last Tycoon', and 'The Postman Always Rings Twice'.
Their time together was marked by Nicholson’s known infidelities, including fathering a child with Rebecca Broussard before the couple officially split in 1990.
For why she remained with him for nearly two decades, Huston said to The Guardian, “I loved him. I think in the world that I was living in, it wasn’t disrespectful."
"It was how he was, and it wasn’t so personal. I think as soon as I clocked that, it was all right, I knew how to protect myself. It didn’t make me happy, but I knew what I was doing," she said.
Anjelica Huston on Jack Nicholson’s enduring care: 'He’s there'
Despite their breakup, Huston and Nicholson have stayed in touch.
Reflecting on the wildfires call, she told the publication last month, “I was in a car with three dogs, two cats, and the housekeeper, and he called and asked if I was all right, and if I had someplace I was staying."
"That’s the bottom line with he and I – when the chips are down, he’s there," she added.
After their split, Huston married sculptor Robert Graham in 1992. He died in 2008 at age 70.
Nicholson, on the other hand, went on to have relationships with Broussard and Lara Flynn Boyle and has six children — including actors Lorraine Nicholson and Ray Nicholson — with five different women.

He did not have children with Huston. Huston continues to work in the industry and will next appear in the Agatha Christie adaptation 'Towards Zero', which premieres on April 16 on BritBox.
