Jack Schlossberg says cousin RFK Jr will ‘definitely’ run for president again in 2028
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Jack Schlossberg believes his cousin Robert F Kennedy Jr is not done with his presidential ambitions.
Speaking to the New York Post while campaigning in New York’s 12th Congressional District, the 33-year-old said he is convinced that Kennedy will try to return to the presidential race in 2028. His remarks come just months after the HHS secretary's wife, actress Cheryl Hines, publicly dismissed the idea that her husband would run for the White House again.
RFK Jr previously ran for president in 2024 as an independent candidate after initially seeking the Democratic nomination.
Jack Schlossberg says RFK Jr still has a strong political following
During the interview, Schlossberg said he believes RFK Jr will run again because of the loyal support he has built among followers.
“He’s going to run,” Schlossberg told the outlet when discussing the possibility of a 2028 presidential bid.
Referring to his cousin’s political base, he added, “He’s got a real following.”
Schlossberg also spoke about supporters connected to the second Trump administration’s “Make America Healthy Again” initiative, often referred to as MAHA.
“Those MAHA guys and women are cultish about him,” he said. “It doesn’t make sense what he says.”
Despite his criticism, Schlossberg acknowledged that Kennedy has been effective at building a powerful personal brand around his political message.
“I mean, I’ll give him credit for being a brilliant mythologizer,” the Congressional candidate added. “He’s good at what he’s doing.”
Cheryl Hines previously dismissed the possibility of RFK Jr running for president in 2028
Schlossberg’s comments appear to contradict remarks made by Kennedy’s wife, Hines, just a few months earlier.
During a December interview on NewsNation’s ‘Elizabeth Vargas Reports’, the actress was asked whether she believed her husband would use his Cabinet role as a stepping stone toward another presidential campaign.
Her answer was direct.
“Oh my gosh, he's not going to run for president in 2028,” Hines said.
Jack Schlossberg recalls family backlash against RFK Jr’s politics
The interview also touched on the tensions Kennedy’s political positions have created within the extended Kennedy family.
Schlossberg spoke about a letter his mother, Caroline Kennedy, released in January 2025, criticizing her cousin after President Donald Trump nominated him to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.
At the time, Schlossberg publicly supported his mother’s decision to speak out.
“My mother didn’t want to put the letter up,” he told the New York Post. “She wishes that it wasn’t happening but it wasn’t her choice.”
According to the 33-year-old, the family felt it was important to clearly state where they stood.
“We were pushed into the pool and we didn’t want anyone to be confused about what we believe and what President Kennedy’s support would be and how dangerous it was to our future,” he said.
RFK Jr’s political path after the 2024 presidential election
Kennedy’s path to becoming HHS secretary followed a complicated political campaign in 2024.
He initially ran for the Democratic presidential nomination before eventually shifting to an independent campaign later in the election season. To the surprise of many, he eventually suspended his campaign and threw his support behind Trump, which brought him backlash from his family.
After Trump won the election and returned to the White House, he appointed Kennedy to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.
The appointment came despite ongoing controversy surrounding his past statements on vaccines and autism.
Schlossberg has frequently criticized his cousin’s politics and public statements. In October, he even shared a mock “MAHA Man” Spirit Halloween costume on Instagram.
The parody costume referenced several of Kennedy’s controversies, including allegations from his children’s former babysitter and his claim that the Covid-19 vaccine may have been engineered to spare Jewish people.
