'The craziest experience': Jaden Smith recalls a difficult moment from filming 'The Karate Kid' in 2010
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jaden Smith, the multi-talented rapper, and actor, faced a significant challenge while filming the 2010 installment of the iconic 'The Karate Kid' franchise.
A particular aspect of his role, which was a crucial part of his character’s development, has left a lasting and painful memory for him.
Jaden Smith's painful journey of mastering the splits
Smith, now 25, recalled one particular memory from the filming process. “Honestly, getting into and inside the splits for the first time was a very difficult thing to do, but it was a huge part of the whole process,” he told People.
“That middle split was the main [one]. That was the biggest and the craziest experience, and Jackie [Chan] and his stunt team helped me," he added. "That was a huge milestone for me, and that’s definitely the memory that I go back to.”
Jaden Smith says the iconic middle split of 'The Karate Kid' is more painful for now
In the film, Smith portrayed Dre Parker, a young boy who learns the art of kung fu from Mr Han, played by Chan.
A scene from the movie showcases Dre’s training progression, where Smith, just 11 years old at the time, carefully lowers himself into a huge, suspended middle split while balancing his feet on two railings.
“I actually just recently got back into that middle split 15 years later,” Smith told the outlet, adding "and that was much more painful than the first time!”

"I just love the desert. I love Coachella. I love being out there and watching the sunset, swimming in the ocean, climbing a tree, climbing a mountain,” Smith told the publication earlier about why he loves attending the festival.
