Jaime King reveals why her son Leo Thames Newman skipped Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jaime King is addressing speculation surrounding her relationship with Taylor Swift after her 10-year-old son, Leo Thames Newman, the pop star's godson, was not among the children at Swift and Travis Kelce's star-studded wedding last week.
The actress responded through her publicist after questions emerged over Leo's absence from the wedding festivities. The statement also comes amid previous reports that King and Swift had not been in touch for some time.
Why Jaime King's son skipped Swift's wedding
"The reason Jaime chose Taylor as Leo Thames's godmother is because they both believe that being a godmother is a deeply personal and spiritual commitment that has nothing to do with public appearances," King's publicist, Jane Owen, exclusively told Page Six.
"Leo Thames is still too young for a large adult wedding celebration, but he and his mother were able to joyfully celebrate Taylor and Kelce's marriage in his own very special, age-appropriate way during his summer break," the publicist added.
The statement came one day after Page Six exclusively reported that none of Swift's five godchildren, including Leo, attended the singer's wedding celebrations with Kelce.
Sources also said the daughters of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Jason Kelce were the only children who served as flower girls during the ceremony.
In April 2025, a source exclusively told Page Six that the 'Sin City' actress "hadn't been in touch for a long time" with Swift but said King "misses Taylor" and hopes they can "reconnect at some point."
"Jaime made Taylor her son's godmother for a reason and she wants to continue that friendship," the source said at the time. King and Swift became close after meeting at a 2014 Golden Globes party.
Inside Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding
Meanwhile, Swift and Kelce kicked off their wedding weekend with a rehearsal dinner that was just as star-studded as the reception. On Friday, July 3, more than 1,000 guests attended the couple's ceremony at Madison Square Garden.
At around 7:30 pm, the venue's exterior lit up with pink digital screens displaying the message, "JUST&T MARRIED!" Swift's longtime publicist, Tree Paine, who attended the wedding, confirmed that the 'Love Story' singer walked down the aisle wearing a Christian Dior haute couture gown, while Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony.
Austin Swift served as his sister's "man of honor," while Jason Kelce was the NFL star's best man, Paine also confirmed.
Swift and the Super Bowl champion announced their engagement in August 2025 through a playful Instagram post that read, "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married," ending the caption with a dynamite emoji in an apparent reference to their "TNT" nickname.
