Jaime King addresses legal trouble after landlord sues her for $42K in unpaid rent amid divorce battle

HOLLYWOOD HILLS, CALIFORNIA: Jaime King has spoken publicly for the first time since being sued by her former landlord, Sheila Irani, for allegedly failing to pay $42,580 in rent.
“The situation with my landlord was resolved privately,” the 45-year-old actress told Us Weekly.
Jaime King responds to lawsuit over unpaid rent

Speaking about being sued by her former landlord, Jamie King said, “It’s disappointing but not surprising to see someone try to exploit this moment for attention."
"I am currently focused on what matters most: my children,” she added.
According to court documents obtained on March 22, King had signed a lease for a Los Angeles rental home in April 2023, with a monthly rent of $10,145.
However, the actress had reportedly not made any payments since January 2024, leading to the legal action.
Jaime King's legal battle and financial hardships
Sheila Irani filed a complaint for breach of contract, alleging that Jamie King had been unlawfully staying on the property without making payments.
King’s attorneys pushed back against the claims, arguing that financial difficulties caused by the Los Angeles wildfires and her ongoing divorce proceedings had prevented her from keeping up with rent.
“[King] has attempted to raise the funds for the back due rent, but claims unavoidable hardship due to the LA wildfires and active litigation,” her legal team stated in amended court documents.

Her lawyers further explained that the Nichols Canyon fire had come within 800 feet of her residence, leading to mandatory evacuation orders that forced her to flee the home temporarily.
They contended that these circumstances, combined with her ongoing legal disputes, contributed to her inability to pay rent, according to E! News.
Custody dispute adds to Jaime King's struggles
In addition to her financial troubles, Jamie King is embroiled in a contentious custody battle with her ex-husband, director Kyle Newman.
Earlier in March, Newman was granted sole physical custody of their two children, sons James, 11, and Leo, eight, after King allegedly failed to complete a court-mandated six-month drug and alcohol rehabilitation program and a 26-week parenting course.

King’s attorneys argued that an eviction would negatively impact her custody case, making her living situation unstable at a critical time.
They claimed that Irani was fully aware of these personal struggles and that King had expressed her willingness to pay the past-due rent and vacate the property before the end of the lease.
Jaime King and former landlord's settlement agreement
Despite the ongoing legal disputes, Jamie King and Irani reached a settlement agreement.
The actress agreed to vacate the premises, waive her security deposit, and officially move out by March 22, 2025.
“Accordingly, King agrees to pay Irani the additional sum of $1,000 per day for each day or part of a day as holdover rent,” read the documents.
