LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Filmmaker Stephen Gyllenhaal has decided to end his 11-year marriage with his wife Kathleen after being separated since spring 2022.
The father-of-two has also filed for joint custody of his nine-year-old son Luke which he shares with Kathleen, as per court documents. Further, March 26, 2022, has been mentioned as the date of separation from filmmaker Kathleen (née Man), 49, in court documents.
Stephen Gyllenhaal and Kathleen got married in 2011 and have worked on several projects together
Stephen, who got married to Kathleen in May 2011, wrote, "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for divorce.
The former pair worked on multiple projects together, including 2012's 'Grassroots' starring Jason Biggs and Lauren Ambrose. Stephen was earlier married to Naomi Foner from 1977 to 2009.
Meanwhile, Stephen's son Jake admitted that his parents’ divorce severely impacted him. “It allowed me to be more honest with myself,” he told People in 2015.
“There was a sense of two people who said ‘What is our truth?’ It was painful for a lot of people in our family, but that honesty was inspiring," Jake added. He also said that he seeks guidance from his parents, saying “They’re really everything to me.”
Jake Gyllenhaal on working with filmmaker Guy Richie
Jake recently appeared in Guy Richie’s 'The Covenant' which is based on the war in Afghanistan. In an interview with Sean Evans for the popular YouTube show ‘Hot Ones’, the ‘Southpaw’ star revealed how the director gave him the creative liberty to “let go” of certain things while shooting.
“[Ritchie’s] approach to filmmaking is to give an actor a lot of space,” the host asked Gyllenhaal whether he found the approach to be “more daunting,” “more challenging,” or “more liberating.”

“The thing that I love about my job is that you get to work with so many different minds.” Jake continued.
"With Guy, it was like nothing I’d ever done. He said to me, ‘Don’t memorize any of your lines,’ and the script came in at 50 pages. It wasn’t even a fully written script,” he added, reports MEAWW.
“Usually, scripts are like 110 pages, and I was like, ‘What is this?’,” he explained “When he first sent it, and then he said, ‘You come to set, and we’ll work on it each day, and then you’ll shoot it.’ It was one of the most inspiring creative experiences I’ve ever had," he further said.
