NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: According to a new report from Semafor on July 3, longtime Democratic strategist James Carville has advised major Democratic donors who are concerned about President Joe Biden to stop donating to candidates who support him.

During a conference call on July 2, Carville conveyed to dozens of donors that voters are eager for an alternative to Biden, whose lackluster performance in last week's debate against former President Donald Trump has sparked significant doubts among Democrats about his chances of winning in November.

Most congressional Democrats who have publicly commented on the issue continue to support Biden despite the controversy.

"Seventy-two percent of people are looking for something different," Carville asserted during the call. "Why not give it to them?"

When a participant asked how donors could promote a change in the ticket, Carville suggested freezing out politicians who support Biden.

"What I would say is, if we don’t do something about this, I’m going to put you on call block on my cell phone," Carville added during the call, as reported by a donor who shared the recording with Semafor.

Carville framed the early debate as possibly beneficial because it happened four months before the election.

"Maybe we look back on this thing and say, ‘This is the best thing that ever happened to us,'" he remarked, adding, "If this would have happened to us on October fifth, we’d be more than bruised, screwed and tattooed. Maybe this will set into motion something different."

In the aftermath of the debate, the seasoned strategist has not held back in expressing his opinions on Biden's candidacy.

Carville told CNN on July 1, “If the Democratic Party can’t produce something different that 72% of people want, why do we exist?” adding, “What are we here for? I mean, the country is clamoring for change,  and what are we going to offer them? The same stuff?”

Online reactions to Carville's remarks highlight diverse views

Carville's calls prompted a split among viewers, underscoring the need for stronger Democratic messaging.

One viewer said, "Why is the Democratic Party being so slow with getting the message out on Project 2025??? It’s basically an updated version of h I t l e r’s M e I n K a m p f." [sic]

Another viewer said, "Democrats are weak on messaging. The only campaign i volunteered for was Obama’s in 2008. I was at one of his rallies back then. If was a very positive experience. Remember the slogan “Yes, We CN!” [sic]

One viewer noted, "MORE POPCORN! 🍿🍿🍿"

Another comment read, "All this crap ain't gonna end well for Democrats and the media. I know it. You know it. They know it. The panic has begun."

"Demokrats reaping what they sow! This is what happens when you elect a dementia patient," explained one person. [sic]

One comment read, "Because your ridiculous hyperbole about a 'plan' that has zero methods of working isn't the current crisis. Biden is."

Another said, "The gaslighting party. The only thing they are good at is planning the next Hoax," referring to the Republicans. [sic]
