Internet demands 'death penalty' for drunk driver hoping for better life 2 years after bride's death
CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA: The drunk driver facing charges for the death of a bride shortly after leaving the wedding venue expressed optimism about her future during a jailhouse call with her sister, despite facing a potential 25-year prison sentence.
In conversations with her sister Kelsi, 26-year-old Jamie Lee Komoroski expressed confidence that "everything is going to work out."
Reflecting on her situation on October 8, Komoroski remarked, "It's so funny because when you're in a bad situation, you're so upset and distraught."
“No matter how bad it is in the moment. It’s going to work out,” she said in the call.
Jamie Komoroski granted bail with stringent conditions
Authorities stated that when Komoroski crashed her Toyota into a golf cart driven by Samantha Miller, 34, and her new husband, Aric Hutchinson, 36, in April of last year, following their wedding reception at Folly Beach, South Carolina, she was found to be three times over the legal blood alcohol limit.
The New York Post reported on Friday, March 1, that Komoroski had been granted bail with stringent conditions, which resulted in his release from custody and placement under house arrest. She is facing four felonies, including reckless homicide, and is awaiting trial.
A judge agreed to set her bail in the event that Charleston County was unable to hold a trial by March 1.
During the call, Kelsi offered comfort to her sister, reassuring her that while everyone goes through moments where they feel like "it's the end of the world," this is never truly the case.
Komoroski, the woman accused of causing the wedding accident, allegedly was speeding and intoxicated at the time of the incident. Despite admitting to the occurrence, she claimed she did nothing wrong.
In a subsequent phone call, Komoroski expressed gratitude for being alive and stated that she never wanted any of this to happen.
Prosecutors allege Komoroski was speeding and slammed her car into the back of the wedding cart. Komoroski and her relatives did not mention Hutchinson or Miller in the calls reviewed by The Post.
A South Carolina woman, Kristin Komoroski, was released on bail after being required to wear a GPS and SCRAM device, remain under house arrest, and surrender her passport.
Her attorney, Chris Gramiccioni, justified her release, pointing to her clean criminal record and robust family backing. As of now, no trial date has been scheduled.
Internet demands 'death penalty' for Jamie Komoroski
Following the news of Komoroski's hopes to "be living the best life," social media users voiced their opinions, with some demanding the "death penalty" for the accused.
One commented on a Facebook post, "I keep saying it, the punishment for killing while driving under the influence must be the death penalty. In EVERY state. Aren't we ALL just sick and tired of reading all these stories of innocent people being killed by drivers who are under the influence and drunk????"
The comment further read, "This problem has never resolved itself, it has become a joke to those who kill because they all know they will get off and they do. The death penalty may change that perception and make people think twice about getting behind the wheel when blotto."
Another user added, "I still don’t understand how she’s slated to be out so quickly. No remorse, no awareness of her actions."
One more commentator remarked, "She deserves to stay in jail for many, many years, She killed a beautiful person, And starting to live a married life, she didn’t get to do that ."
"Zero remorse!! I hope the judge takes that into consideration when she is sentenced. She deserves life. Self-absorbed brat, her parents should be so proud," a user concluded.
