LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jamie Lee Curtis said she is preparing to leave Hollywood behind, pointing to her family’s experience with fame and her disapproval of how the beauty industry has changed.

Jamie Lee Curtis recalls pain of watching parents Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis' success 'slowly erode' as they aged
The 'Halloween' star said her decision to begin stepping away is rooted in watching the decline of her parents’ careers.
Janet Leigh, best known for Alfred Hitchcock’s 'Psycho', and Tony Curtis, famed for 'Some Like It Hot', experienced industry rejection in later years.

“I witnessed my parents lose the very thing that gave them their fame and their life and their livelihood, when the industry rejected them at a certain age,” Curtis told The Guardian in an interview published on Saturday, July 26.
“I watched them reach incredible success and then have it slowly erode to where it was gone. And that’s very painful,” she added.
Her mother died in 2004 at age 77, and her father in 2010 at age 85. They had divorced in 1962 after being married for 11 years.

Jamie Lee Curtis says cosmetic procedures are harming generations of women
In her interview with The Guardian, Jamie Lee Curtis expressed sharp criticism for the obsession with physical alterations, calling it a “disfigurement of generations.”
She referred to plastic surgery as “the genocide of a generation of women by the cosmeceutical industrial complex, who’ve disfigured themselves.”

“I believe that we have wiped out a generation or two of natural human [appearance],” Curtis stated.
“The concept that you can alter the way you look through chemicals, surgical procedures, fillers — there’s a disfigurement of generations of predominantly women who are altering their appearances," she added.
Jamie Lee Curtis blasts AI-driven beauty standards and opens up about retirement mindset
Jamie Lee Curtis, who won an Oscar in 2024 for 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' and currently appears on 'The Bear', said AI tools and filters are only making the problem worse.
She highlighted how AI promotes unrealistic expectations, saying, “Because now the filter face is what people want. I’m not filtered right now. The minute I lay a filter on and you see the before and after, it’s hard not to go: ‘Oh, well that looks better.’ But what’s better? Better is fake.”
Though she avoided naming celebrities, Curtis commented on the widespread influence of plastic surgery, saying, “There are too many examples —I will not name them — but very recently we have had a big onslaught through media, many of those people.”
Despite continuing work, Curtis said she has been preparing to walk away for decades.
“I have been self-retiring for 30 years. I have been prepping to get out, so that I don’t have to suffer the same as my family did,” the 'Freaky Friday' actress said.
“I want to leave the party before I’m no longer invited. I have become quite brusque. And I have no problem saying: ‘Back the f***k off,’” she added.
