AUSTIN, TEXAS: Rep Jasmine Crockett is publicly distancing herself from rapper Nicki Minaj following the artist’s recent political alignment with the Trump Administration.

In a TMZ interview, Crockett made it clear her music choices have changed due to what she sees as a betrayal of values. The congresswoman emphasized that she can’t “divorce the art from the artist” when it comes to someone she believes has abandoned core principles.

Jasmine Crockett’s rebuke of Nicki Minaj’s support for Trump administration

In the interview, Crockett openly criticized Minaj’s recent political actions, revealing that she has stopped listening to the rapper’s music because she supported the Trump Administration. Crockett said she’s always been more of a Cardi B fan and Nicki’s “foray into right‑wing politics” only intensified her disdain.

Crockett called out what she views as Minaj’s “sellout” behavior, especially in a politically sensitive moment. She stated she can’t support someone who is embracing an administration she believes aggressively pursues undocumented immigrants.

According to Crockett, Minaj’s political positioning is enough for her to completely stop engaging with her music and not “put any more money into Nicki’s pockets.” Addressing why the artist may have shifted politically, Crockett admitted she "doesn’t know" the exact motives.

However, she speculated that it could be related to immigration benefits, such as securing papers for a relative or even positioning for a presidential pardon down the road, noting that both Minaj’s husband and her brother have faced legal trouble.

The congresswoman also addressed Minaj’s remarks on Don Lemon’s controversial arrest, with reference to her past appearances at political events, including one with the conservative group Turning Point USA alongside figures like Erika Kirk.

She said," But going after people like Don Lemon who I love dearly, Just wrong like she's just on the wrong side of history."

Jasmine Crockett on conservative ties and Nicki Minaj’s public persona

Minaj’s increasing involvement with the Trump administration, including affirming controversial moves and being visible at right‑leaning events, has put her at odds with Crockett’s views.

Minaj even discussed political topics during media appearances, including saying she is “fine with transgender adults” while expressing opposition to gender‑affirming surgeries for children, details coming from her interview with podcast host Katie Miller, Trump advisor Stephen Miller's wife.

Crockett continued her criticism, stating, "Remember all of this when she comes back and she's broke and she's begging for money and support because something tells me, MAGA ain't gonna do it for her."

Crockett also emphasized that Minaj’s influence is tied to her wealth and the platform it provides, explaining, "It's the dollars that have given her a platform in the first place… Otherwise Donald Trump wouldn't even know who she was… No one would know who she was but for the dollars that were used."

She questioned the impact of supporting her, asking, "Do you want to continue to support or elevate a person's platform? Who's then going to turn around and do things that are demeaning to us as a society?"

The reporter also asked Crockett about Minaj not being included in Turning Point’s halftime Super Bowl show, to which she replied, "She may now understand her place as it relates to MAGA, but maybe she won't, who knows."
