WASHINGTON, DC: Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) and Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio) are set to face off in a highly anticipated vice-presidential debate on October 1, hosted by CBS.

Vance confirmed his participation in the debate on Thursday, August 15, after Walz accepted the invitation on Wednesday night, August 14.

The debate is scheduled to take place in New York City, providing voters with an opportunity to hear directly from the candidates.

JD Vance eager for multiple debates with Tim Walz

JD Vance expressed his willingness to participate in an additional debate with Tim Walz on September 18, hosted by CNN.

This arrangement has not yet been confirmed by Walz’s campaign, leaving the possibility of a second debate up in the air.

Vance took to the social platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce his acceptance of the October 1 debate. He also challenged Walz to join him in a second debate on CNN on September 18.

"The American people deserve as many debates as possible, which is why President Trump has challenged Kamala to three of them already," Vance stated, responding to Walz's post that read, "See you on October 1, JD."

Vance further added, "Not only do I accept the CBS debate on October 1st, I accept the CNN debate on September 18th as well. I look forward to seeing you at both!" JD Vance posted on X.

JD Vance and Tim Walz were previously invited to debates by CBS and CNN

CBS News had earlier issued a statement inviting both candidates, Tim Walz and JD Vance, to participate in the New York City debate, with October 1 being one of the proposed dates.

"We look forward to their responses and providing voters with an opportunity to hear directly from the vice-presidential candidates," CBS stated.

Meanwhile, CNN confirmed it had invited both the vice-presidential nominees for a debate this fall.

"Senator Vance has accepted. We are always in communication with the campaigns around opportunities for the American public to hear from leading candidates for President and Vice President of the United States, and we look forward to this programming in the fall," a CNN spokesperson mentioned.

JD Vance upset over missed opportunity to debate Kamala Harris

JD Vance has been vocal about his disappointment regarding the missed opportunity to debate Vice President Kamala Harris directly.

After President Joe Biden dropped out of the race, Harris took over as the Democratic presidential nominee, selecting Walz as her running mate.

Vance, who had initially hoped to debate Harris, expressed his frustration at a rally in Middletown, Ohio, in July saying, "I was told I was gonna get to debate Kamala Harris, and now President Trump’s gonna get to debate her? I’m kind of pissed off about that, if I’m being honest with you."

It came after Donald Trump's campaign first expressed unwillingness to let Vance debate Harris at the time, suggesting he wouldn't commit to debate unless she were first a confirmed nominee amid growing calls for Biden to step aside.

One Republican supporter wrote on X, "Go get him, JD. Expose Tampon Tim for the fraud that he is." Another user chimed in, "He’s going to humiliate you."

Some users questioned the format, with one asking, "Since when have there been multiple VP debates?"

Another user wrote, "Losing candidates always want more debates." Support for Vance also came through, with one user writing, "Stepping into the lion’s den. JD is fearless."
