WASHINGTON DC: A throng of protesters shouted slogans as Vice President JD Vance thanked National Guard troops and police officers at Union Station in Washington, DC, on Wednesday.

Vance praised law enforcement for their role in President Donald Trump's recent crackdown, noting that violent crime in the city had fallen by 35 percent in the past nine days.

JD Vance calls protesters 'crazy liberals' at Union Station

Speaking to the crowd, Vance described how Union Station had struggled in recent years with vagrants, addicts, "chronically homeless" individuals, and people struggling with mental illness.

He recalled a personal moment when his own family was targeted.

"I think you hear these guys outside here screaming at us. Of course, these are a bunch of crazy protesters. But I'll tell you, a couple of years ago, when I brought my kids here, they were screamed at by violent vagrants. And it scared the hell out of my kids," Vance said.

"I know that we've traded now, some violent, crazy people who are screaming at kids with a few crazy liberals who are screaming at the vice president. But I think that's a very worthwhile trade to make, because we want our people to be able to enjoy our beautiful cities. This is your city. You should feel free to come and visit here," Vance added.

JD Vance defends crackdown, says crime problem 'obvious'

The vice president clashed with a reporter who questioned whether he had evidence of Washington’s crime problem.

"You just have to look around – obviously DC has a terrible crime problem," Vance said, pointing to how Department of Justice and FBI statistics "back it up."

"Just talk to a resident of this city, this beautiful, great American city," Vance continued. "We hear these people outside screaming ‘Free DC' Let's free DC from lawlessness."

"It is kind of bizarre we have a bunch of old, primarily White people who are out there protesting the policies that keep people safe when they have never felt danger in their entire lives," Vance said.

Stephen Miller ridicules 'stupid White hippies' in protest crowd

White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller was even harsher in his comments, mocking the ages of some demonstrators.

"We’re not going to let communists destroy a great American city, let alone the nation's capital," Miller said, calling many of the demonstrators "elderly" and "over 90 years old."

"For too long, 99% of this city has been terrorized by 1% of this city," Miller added. "And the voices that you hear out there, these crazy communists, they have no connection to the city."

"They have no families. They weren't raised in this city. They have no one that they're sending to school in this city. They have no jobs in this city," Miller continued.

He added, "They have no connections to this community at all. They're the ones who've been advocating for the 1%. The criminals, the killers, the rapiss, the drug dealers."

Internet reacts to JD Vance and Stephen Miller’s remarks

Internet  reactions were divided after Vance and Miller’s remarks at Union Station.

"Getting booed by the very people you claim to support says it all. The backlash against this administration is not just growing, it is impossible to ignore," wrote one user on X.

"It was a lot easier to enjoy our great American cities when they weren't being surveilled and policed like North Korean cities. JD is such a simpleton," added another.

"Most people believe these vocal critics are all paid," said one more.

"Ever see the movie Civil War from 2024 directed by Alex Garland? Yeah, this reminds me of that. Troops don't belong on US city streets," shared another commenter.

"Vance is the smiling journalist assassin. JD, keep up the great work!" another person wrote.

One more alleged, "FREE DC OF PAID PROTESTORS!"
