NATIONAL HARBOR, MARYLAND: JD Vance may have kicked off the 2025 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) with a rather bold stance, but it was his actual physical stance — legs spread wide, pants a little too short — that worked against him Thursday morning, February 20.

While seated, cameras caught the vice president of the United States in an unfortunate fashion faux pas - his pants didn’t quite meet his high socks, leaving an awkward gap of bare skin peeking through.

JD Vance mocked on social media for his pants

Social media wasn't going to let it slide, obviously.

"Why do they have our beloved JD Vance out here with tiny pants?!! Make pants great again for VANCE!" one posted on X.

"The second lady should advise him to get wider pants and over-the-calf socks so that his bare leg doesn't show when he sits down," a second user offered.

"Maybe someone should also advise him against his 'wide stance' in sitting, else we'll end up with a story about him in an Akron, Ohio airport restroom," another quipped.

"JD Vance is literally not doing anything else, so at the bare minimum he can serve a suitable VP look," someone else wrote.

"Oh dear yes. PSA to all politicians - check how your outfit looks when you sit down," read a comment.

"Bro did this on multiple occasions and I’m glad someone finally said something," another chimed in.

Fashion faux pas aside, Vance had a lot to say at CPAC. Fresh off a controversial speech in Munich (where he raised eyebrows for getting a little too cozy with a right-wing German political party), he doubled down on his stance that America's alliances should be based on shared values - especially on immigration.

"Friendship is based on shared values," Vance declared at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland. "You do not have shared values if you’re so afraid of your own people that you silence them and shut them up."

Defending Trump's first month in office

With President Donald Trump’s second term moving at lightning speed — executive orders flying left and right — Vance was put on the spot about how things were going. Asked by Mercedes Schlapp (whose husband runs CPAC), Vance gave a full-throated defense of billionaire Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

He argued that the deep spending cuts pushed by Musk were actually good for everyday Americans in the long run - considering, firing thousands of federal workers is just step one.

Vance also had a message for those waiting for Trump to fulfill his big campaign promise of lower grocery and energy prices. "It’s going to take some time to fix what Joe Biden broke over four years," the vice president said.

Vance has been a regular at CPAC since his 2022 Senate win in Ohio, and he’s basically a headliner at this point.

What was once a broad conservative conference has become Trump’s turf, and it has since been "dominated by his nativist right-wing strain of conservatism," according to the New York Times.
