AUBURN HILLS, MICHIGAN: Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance is being trolled after he admitted that former President Donald Trump had a talk with the gardener at Mar-a-Lago before picking him as his running mate.

Addressing a rally at Auburn Hills, Michigan, on Wednesday, October 2, the senator from Ohio admitted who all might have contributed to Trump's decision to choose him.

The GOP presidential nominee announced Vance, once a Trump critic, as his running mate on the first day of the Republican National Convention in July, ending months-long speculations.

JD Vance says Trump was willing to take 'feedback' from anyone, including Mar-a-Lago gardener

Vance's admission stemmed from a question on how he managed disagreements with the real estate mogul, as per Raw Story.

He recalled that the only conversation he had with Trump regarding the possibility of him becoming the vice presidential candidate was the Saturday before the RNC convened on July 15.

"And you know what the president told me? He said that he talked to everybody about who his vice presidential nominee should be," the Ohio Republican claimed. The GOP VP pick further deemed Trump's willingness to take feedback as one of his great qualities.

"He even said that he was talking to the Mar-a-Lago gardener about who the vice presidential nominee should be," Vance continued.

"And I said, 'Well, sir, what the hell did the Mar-a-Lago gardener say? Because this affects my life. I'm very curious what these people you're talking to are saying about this very important decision,'" the senator added.

Nevertheless, Vance did not reveal what advice the gardener gave to the MAGA leader but indicated that the country should be led by someone accepting feedback from anyone.

Evolution of JD Vance: From a never-Trumper to VP mate

Upon Trump's announcement that Vance would be his running mate in his third presidential bid, the congressman's past comments about the ex-president resurfaced, indicating his shift in political position.

Before Trump's 2016 victory, Vance, in a private message to his friend, said the billionaire could be "America's Hitler." In a 2016 interview for CNN, the 'Hillbilly Elegy' author confirmed he would not vote for Trump.

However, Vance shifted his stance by 2020, revealing to podcaster Megyn Kelly that he voted for the real estate mogul in the 2020 election, and two years later, he sought the 45th president's endorsement while running for Senate in 2022.

Since becoming Trump's running mate, Vance has followed the former's path by ripping into Vice President Kamala Harris and her VP pick, Minnesota Gov Tim Walz.

In addition, he also helped in amplifying Trump's debunked conspiracy theories, particularly about pet-eating Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio.

Vance admitted Trump asked for feedback from a gardener at Mar-a-Lago regarding his choice of running mate, sparked mockery online as netizens claimed the gardener's taste was "awful."

"So the gardener has no taste…" a user quipped.

"He just wants to blather to whoever will listen. He sure af doesn’t take ANY input Does JD think we’re just learning abt this lunatic?" another asked.

"Oooooof. Even when he tries to be relatable, he fails miserably," read a fourth response.

"The gardener actually vetted JD…" someone else wrote.

"That explains it then. The gardener gets stuffed on his pay, frequently. So choses the worst possible running mate out there," another user added.

"Not the flex he wanted it to be. And just weird," an individual wrote.

"So the gardener has awful taste," one user chimed in.

"Was he asking the Gardner because they deal with a lot of manure. Gardner must have thought Vance matched up," read another remark.
