LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Wednesday' star Jenna Ortega is pleading with fans to stop participating in a viral trend involving plush dolls of her character Wednesday Addams.

The trend, which has been gaining momentum on TikTok, involves mischievous users going into department stores and altering the dolls in a bizarre and disruptive way, as reported by The Independent.

The dolls, featuring Wednesday Addams' signature gothic style with her jet-black pigtails and school uniform, quickly became a hot-selling item following the release of the latest teaser of the Netflix series.

With the show amassing a massive fanbase since its premiere in November 2022, it's no surprise that merchandise like these dolls quickly became sought-after collectibles.

However, things took a chaotic turn when fans started a viral trend that has left retailers frustrated.

In the trend, TikTok users have been visiting stores and manipulating the dolls’ hair to create the appearance of baldness, leaving their foreheads completely exposed.

These disruptive antics led Ortega herself to intervene after photos surfaced online showing a basket of dolls with egg-shaped heads, the result of overzealous fans flipping their hair inside out.

The 23-year-old actress urged fans to stop the behavior, posting a simple yet direct plea on TikTok: "Please don’t."

Wednesday Addams dolls have become a headache for department stores due to TikTok trend

Her reaction came in response to a video that showcased a department store’s exasperated attempt to combat the trend.

A poster in the store, written in bold capital letters, sternly warned customers, "Do not flip Wednesday’s hair, you will be asked to leave."

Even major brands like Fanta, Play-Doh, and La Roche Posay chimed in, adding their voices to the playful conversation and making the trend even more viral.

The unintended consequence of the trend has been a headache for department stores, which have been struggling to keep the dolls in their original condition.

Store staff have reportedly been spending considerable time fixing the dolls after customers leave them in disarray, creating additional work for retail workers during an already busy shopping season.

While Ortega’s plea may or may not stop the viral trend, excitement for the 'Wednesday' series continues to build, especially with news of its second season.

Fans of the show were treated to a new behind-the-scenes teaser from Netflix last month, hinting that Season 2 will be "bigger and more twisted."

The teaser, narrated by Ortega in her deadpan Wednesday Addams voice, playfully warned viewers, "If we showed you any more, your eyes would bleed, and I’m not that generous," before teasingly adding, "Let’s play dolls."
