LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Actor Jennifer Aniston opened up about the growing influence of artificial intelligence in Hollywood, expressing concerns about AI-generated content and its potential impact on actors and the entertainment industry during a Variety interview published on Wednesday, June 3.

The actress said there is still much to understand about the rapidly evolving technology, as Hollywood continues to debate how AI could shape the future of creative work. Her comments come amid broader industry discussions about deepfakes, digital likeness rights, and the role of AI in entertainment.

Jennifer Aniston says Hollywood needs to learn more about AI

Aniston reflected on the growing influence of AI and admitted that many people are still trying to understand the technology and its implications. She revealed that she is often sent AI-generated content by people who mistakenly believe it is real.

She said, "The amount of things that I get sent from people think that it’s actually me —and it’s so clearly not." She also acknowledged that AI remains largely unfamiliar territory and stressed that there is still much to learn about its capabilities and consequences.

She stated, "But yeah, it’s such unchartered territory, and I think we have to learn about it." Discussing the rapid pace at which the technology is evolving, Aniston compared AI to a growing threat that is becoming increasingly difficult to comprehend.

She emphasized, "It feels like it’s already just grown into this 900-headed monster. We don’t understand enough about it." The actress also spoke about the increasing prevalence of AI-generated deepfakes and the challenges they create for public figures.

She revealed that she frequently encounters fake images and videos featuring her likeness, often brought to her attention by friends and family members who question whether the content is genuine. Aniston said she forwards such cases to her legal team in an effort to stop their circulation.

Aniston further noted that deepfake advertisements have falsely used her image to promote products, including weight-loss and collagen supplements, creating confusion among people who believe the endorsements are authentic.

Lisa Kudrow shares her perspective on AI's role in Hollywood

While Aniston focused on the risks and uncertainties surrounding AI, Kudrow offered a more measured perspective on the technology's growing role in Hollywood. Speaking during the Actors on Actors conversation with Variety, she acknowledged that AI could bring both challenges and benefits to the entertainment industry.

She expressed optimism that the industry would learn through experimentation and eventually identify the most effective uses of the technology, "I feel like we’re going to learn a lot about what doesn’t work, and that there will be some aspects of it that will be really helpful."

The actress also suggested that audiences will ultimately determine whether AI-generated content finds a lasting place in entertainment, arguing that viewers will decide what they are willing to accept, "And I think an audience will always let you know what works for them and what doesn’t work for them."

Despite ongoing discussions about AI potentially replacing creative professionals, Kudrow pointed to younger generations' ability to identify AI-generated content as one reason performers may remain protected for now.

She stated, "And I think right now, just as actors, I think we’re safe, because young people can tell so much better than I can tell, what’s an AI generated human."
