Jennifer Coolidge fans ‘bamboozled’ after hearing what actress sounds like in real life at Golden Globes
BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA: Jennifer Coolidge, beloved for her quirky characters and signature raspy voice, had fans doing a double take after a surprising moment on the 2025 Golden Globes red carpet.
A short clip of the 'White Lotus' star, shared by correspondent Matthew Friend on Instagram, quickly went viral. Friend humorously mimicked Coolidge’s iconic voice, prompting her to respond but in a voice entirely different from her trademark intonation, Huffpost reported.

Jennifer Coolidge was interviewed on the Golden Globes red carpet on Sunday, January 5, by Matthew Friend.
“This is Jennifer Coolidge sipping on a cool drink,” Friend says before taking a sip from a bottle
“Oh gahd, ahh,” Friend says, mimicking Coolidge.
“Oh gahd, it’s not bahd?” Friend asks Coolidge of his impression. “It could be worse? Oh gahd. Do you think it is good? Yes or no?”
“It is good!” an amused Coolidge finally responded, speaking in a voice that lacked her signature breathy intonation.

Many users on X were quick to note that this isn’t exactly new. They reminded others that Coolidge used her natural speaking voice back in 1993 when she portrayed one of Jerry Seinfeld’s girlfriends on 'Seinfeld'.
A user posted a clip writing, "Here’s your reminder we’ve known for 30 years that Jennifer Coolidge doesn’t always talk like “Jennifer Coolidge.""

Jennifer Coolidge’s unique voice
Jennifer Coolidge’s distinct voice has become one of her defining characteristics, but fans might be surprised to learn it wasn’t always part of her performance repertoire. In her breakout role as Stifler’s mom in 1999’s 'American Pie', Coolidge didn’t yet showcase her now-famous inflection.
Her voice began evolving while working on Christopher Guest’s 2000 comedy 'Best in Show', where she played Sherri Ann Cabot, a ditzy gold-digger married to an older man. Over the years, this quirky accent became an essential part of her comedic persona, helping her stand out in Hollywood.
In a 2022 interview with Jimmy Fallon, Coolidge revealed that her career hit a “dead zone” before an unexpected boost in 2018. That year, pop star Ariana Grande performed an impression of Coolidge on 'The Tonight Show', which went viral and reignited interest in the comedic actor.
Encouraged by a friend, Coolidge reached out to Grande, leading to her appearance in the music video for Grande’s hit song 'Thank u, next' in 2019. “That got the ball rolling,” Coolidge recalled, marking the start of her career resurgence.
Coolidge’s comeback reached new heights with her portrayal of Tanya McQuoid in HBO’s 'The White Lotus'. Her performance in the series earned her consecutive Emmy Awards in 2021 and 2022 for Seasons 1 and 2.
