CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: At the grand opening of the Obama Presidential Center on Thursday, June 18, Chicago native and celebrated singer Jennifer Hudson delivered a powerful performance that left the audience deeply moved, including Michelle Obama.

Her strong vocals created an emotional atmosphere in the room, with the former first lady visibly affected and seen reaching for a tissue once the performance concluded, a moment that quickly caught attention.

Michelle later reflected on the performance, saying, “Well, my goodness, I got my tissue in hand. I don’t know about all of you.”

Jennifer Hudson’s performance moves Michelle Obama to tears at Opening Event

Among other performances at the opening of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, Hudson’s vocals echoed through the venue with striking power and emotion. She took the stage with grace and poise, carrying a deep sense of patriotism that captivated the star-studded audience.

The event drew former presidents, Obama administration alumni, celebrities, and political figures, with several notable guests in attendance, including former first lady Michelle Obama, former President Barack Obama, and their daughters, who made a rare public appearance.

As Hudson finished “The Impossible Dream,” a piece she famously performed in 2009 in tribute to Muhammad Ali, the camera quickly turned to Michelle, who was seen dabbing her eyes with a tissue, visibly moved by the emotional rendition.

For those unfamiliar, “The Impossible Dream” was originally written for the 1965 Broadway musical Man of La Mancha. The song added a powerful emotional layer to the evening’s historic celebration, with many attendees also appearing deeply affected by the performance.

The former first lady was not the only one moved to tears as the Obama Presidential Center opened. The former president also became teary-eyed during the event. He was surprised by a tribute to his late mother-in-law, Marian Robinson, shown on Michelle’s long skirt at a special reception.

She carefully chose her attire to represent peace and harmony, reflecting the tone and spirit of the occasion. The outfit gave a refined, modern formal look suited for the occasion. She styled her hair in soft, sleek waves and kept her makeup natural with a glowing finish, defined eyes, and a soft lip.
