LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Everyone knows by now that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck — aka "Bennifer 2.0" — are knee-deep in a messy breakup.

It looks like their decision not to sign a prenuptial agreement before tying the knot is now coming back to bite them, turning what could’ve been a quiet split into a headline-grabbing spectacle.

Trouble in paradise: The Beverly Hills mansion

Back in August, Jennifer decided to call it quits and filed for divorce from Ben citing “irreconcilable differences.” It wasn’t exactly a shocker, considering the rumors that had been swirling for months. What started as a fairytale reunion has become a full-blown drama that’s got everyone wondering what really went down.

One of the biggest issues in their split? The massive Beverly Hills estate they bought together, worth a cool $60 million and now listed at $68 million. Without a prenup in place, this swanky property has become a real pain point. It’s not just about a home; it’s about who gets what in their now-separated lives — and the estate is right in the middle of it.

Entertainment lawyer Tre Lovell gave the Daily Mirror the lowdown on the mess. “The primary issue of divorce will be community property, which is all property acquired during the tenure of the marriage absent certain exceptions. Purchasing a home during the marriage will constitute a community property asset,” Lovell said.

Here’s where things get even trickier: While they both chipped in for the house, rumor has it JLo forked over a lot more cash than Affleck when they bought the place. That could spell trouble for her.

Lovell broke down how this could play out: “When it comes time to value the asset and determine community property interest, factors such as appreciation, who put the bulk of the downpayment down on the house, who made the monthly mortgage payments, who paid for renovations, etc., are factors that will be considered when doing a forensic valuation."

“Thus, if she put the most money down, it may complicate the process in terms of agreeing to a dividing money and assets that may be community property," Lovell added.

And the mansion isn’t the only thing they’re battling over. The couple’s other shared assets are also up in the air, making an already tense situation even worse.

An insider spilled to In Touch Weekly, “They had no prenup, which complicates things, and what’s at stake are the assets they acquired together during their marriage—the $60 million house they’ve listed for $68 million, and the production company Artists Equity Ben formed with Matt Damon two years ago, which Jennifer also has a stake in.”

Jennifer Lopez's frustration over shared expenses

If all that wasn’t bad enough, sources say JLo is doing everything she can to avoid handing Affleck a big payout.

Another source told In Touch Weekly, “She already feels so screwed over by Ben. Writing him a massive check is just the final insult, and it’s not something she’s going to just hand over.”

The same source added, “It’s become very clear now that there’s no getting out of paying Ben half of what she made during their marriage, which is obviously not sitting well with her.”

Money seems to be a sore subject here, and JLo’s not shy about her feelings. She apparently believes that Affleck was happy to live the high life on her dime.

A Daily Mail insider shared, “One of the little-known secrets is Jennifer paid for much of their marital expenses and now she feels he owes her. She’s adding up all those private jet bills she puts on her plastic, the hotels and meals, clothes, coffee runs, gas. The high cost of living was done on her dime. She paid the lion’s share for that $60 million mansion they bought, too.”

“Ben took so much money out of her, at least that’s what she’s saying," the source added.

When Affleck and JLo got back together, it felt like a Hollywood fairytale of two stars rekindling an old romance. They eloped in Las Vegas in July 2022, and followed it up with a big wedding in Georgia.

But fast forward two years, and the romance has more than fizzled out. JLo officially filed for divorce on their second anniversary in August this year. She made it clear she didn’t want spousal support and asked the court to deny it to Affleck too.
