Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck as she felt 'humiliated' in marriage, insiders reveal
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Insiders claimed that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's "fairytale" marriage fell apart from the beginning because there was "no way she could control her embattled husband and he couldn't change her."
Now, insiders revealed to Daily Mail journalist Alison Boshoff the real reasons they think Lopez and Affleck split, as well as the reality of the prenup and how it has made the singer feel "humiliated."
Insiders believe Ben Affleck is 'selfish, sullen and loudmouth'
Jennifer Lopez, 55, last visited Ben Affleck, 52, on Thursday, August 15, when she dropped by his rented home to wish him a happy birthday and spend some time with his children.
Journalist Alison Boshoff claimed that was the penultimate event before Lopez decided to end their marriage for good. The singer filed for divorce in the Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, August 20 - which marked the second anniversary of their lavish white wedding at his Georgian home.
The 'Marry Me' actress has requested friends not to comment and has not revealed why she drew the final straw, that too without any legal representation.
However, insiders revealed that despite Lopez's hopes, it appeared that Affleck did not wish to mend the marriage. There was a limit to how long their separation, which had begun in April, could remain.
Boshoff was told by insiders, "He [Ben] was impossible to be married to. Friends think he is selfish, sullen, impossible to please most of the time and negative."
"She was constantly trying to lift his spirits, boost him up – it was exhausting. He is a loudmouth, loves to hear himself talk and blusters on."
"She was a great audience, mostly she hung onto his every word, but she is not as young and impressionable as she used to be. The negativity was overwhelming in the end, she could not lift him anymore," Boshoff quoted as what the insiders said.
According to Boshoff, the source told People magazine: "She's very disappointed and sad, but Ben hasn't given her any signs that he wants to continue their marriage. It's gotten to the point that she just needs to look out for herself."
Lopez reportedly felt compelled to admit that their relationship was over after what she considered to be months of "personally humiliating" attention and rumors.
Insiders reveal there won't be any fights over money in Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's divorce
Alison Boshoff asserted that people can expect a swift and bloodless split between Lopez and Affleck. Friends claimed that there wouldn't be any arguments over money because they both have plenty and might leave the marriage with the same assets.
Their lack of a prenuptial agreement—per a financial information sheet included with the divorce petition—implies they will have to divide any income or community property obtained during their marriage.
One insider said, "The two of them will just call it quits and be glad it's over."
However, Lopez decided to forego spousal support and has requested the judge to refuse Affleck the same, suggesting that there will not be a financial argument.
Lopez provided April 26 as the date of separation. She walked the Met Gala red carpet alone, and that's when the split became apparent in early May.
A source claimed at the time that Affleck would "divorce on grounds of temporary insanity" if he could, as he had finally come "to his senses."
The source added that Affleck allegedly had the realization after experiencing what seemed to be a "fever dream" of a relationship with Lopez, with whom he was briefly engaged before calling it quits in 2004.
They started falling apart as a married couple during the summer. Their massive $60 million (£46 million) Beverly Hills house went up for sale on July 12.
Moreover, Affleck coincidentally bought a new home in Pacific Palisades, California, in late July on the singer's 55th birthday, and was suspiciously absent from Lopez's massive Bridgerton-themed party.
"Jennifer and Ben are totally over, they’re just not compatible, even after 20 years neither have changed," a source told The Sun.
The source added: "He’s had his demons with alcohol, but she doesn’t really drink or smoke. She’s super clean-living. Both are very difficult human beings."
