Jennifer Lopez praises Max and Emme's hard work and achievements
Speaking about what makes her most proud as her children move into adulthood, Lopez revealed that both of them were accepted into every college they applied to and received scholarships. "I am so proud that they set goals for themselves," she said.
She continued, "They all got into all five colleges that they applied to. They both got a scholarship to each, you know, one scholarship to each. Each one got a scholarship to a school. And I just felt like they work so hard."
Lopez reflected on watching her twins dedicate themselves to their studies from a young age, "I watched how hard they worked, from the time they were like... when school gets serious in the fifth grade, and they just worked hard."
She also spoke about the challenges they faced, "They have ADHD, and so they need to learn differently, and there were struggles and times, and I'm just so proud of them because they did what they said they were going to do, and they're good people."
Lopez, who shares Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony, said she values their character above anything else. "And they always said that. I always say to them, 'What do I say?' And they say, 'Doesn't matter if we get good grades so long as we're good people.' And I was like, 'That's right.' And they still sometimes will quote that back to me. So I'm very proud of both of them."
Jennifer Lopez reflects on the bittersweet moment of Max and Emme leaving for college
Earlier this month, Lopez discussed the upcoming transition during an appearance on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!,' revealing just how emotional she has been as graduation approaches. "Tomorrow one of them graduates [high school]," she told host Jimmy Kimmel.
When the conversation turned to the subject, she joked, "Don't talk about it 'cause we start crying." Asked whether she would cry during the graduation ceremony, she replied, "Yeah. I've been crying for two months."
Kimmel then joked, "Will you look around at the other parents and see who's not crying and think, ‘I love my children more than they do?'" Laughing, she responded, "No. I think all the parents are going to be crying at some point."
Discussing her children's college plans, Lopez said she was supportive even if they attended different schools. "It's fine. I want them to be happy, go where they want to go, and do what they want to do." She recalled feeling excited about pursuing her own dreams at their age and wants the same for them.
She stated, "It's going to be great. I want them to go out there, I want them to do what they want to do. They have big dreams. They have things they want to do. It's going to be great." Still, the reality of the transition has been emotional.
Lopez remembered being asked to write messages for the yearbook, "And then like two months ago, I had to write the little thing for the yearbook or whatever the heck thing that they make you write," adding, "When I tell you the tears. Two days, it took me to write those things."
