NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: During the June 25 episode of 'The Five' Fox News host Jesse Watters speculated about Vice President Kamala Harris potentially stepping in for Joe Biden shortly, derisively labeling her possible presidency as a 'DEI presidency'.

Reportedly, Harris has been making quiet efforts, gathering insights to challenge the Biden campaign's internal thinking, and seeking to push for strategic changes, something which has been seen positively by leading Democrats concerned about the campaign's stagnation and lack of engagement from Biden's headquarters.

Jesse Watters cites progressives' goals for Kamala Harris's presidency

Watters commented that the upcoming presidential debate is a crucial step for "the progressive movement" to "push [Biden] over the finish line and install" Harris.

“There is a lot at stake, plus the progressive movement—they are this close to locking this thing in. They have opened the borders. They have changed the entire culture of this country. If you look at the cities, it is almost over,” he worried.

“If they can drag him across the finish line and install Kamala, we have a DEI presidency that they can celebrate for the rest of the administration,” Watters continued. “That’s all they need to get to. It’s just ninety minutes. That’s all it takes."

As per CNN, Harris is intensifying her efforts at a crucial time.

Her office has overcome initial dysfunction and she is asserting herself more prominently in public, highlighted by her recent speech at the Munich Security Conference aimed at reassuring Europeans worried about a potential return of Donald Trump.

However, Republicans are leveraging her low approval ratings and Biden's age to shift focus onto Harris in the 2024 campaign, especially amid ongoing concerns about the president's mental sharpness.

Fox News criticizes DEI efforts amid Baltimore Bridge incident

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts have long been a target of criticism on Fox News and similar right-wing platforms.

Recently, these criticisms intensified after a cargo ship incident destroyed a bridge in Baltimore.

During this period, the acronym was notably used in a negative light aimed at the city's Black mayor, Brandon Scott.

According to reports, rescuers are still searching for multiple people, while two survivors have been pulled from the Patapsco River. A work crew was fixing potholes on the bridge, which is used by roughly 30,000 people each day, when the ship struck at around 1:30am on Tuesday morning. In response to these racially-charged critiques, Scott reframed the narrative. "In my view, what they mean by DEI is 'Duly Elected Incumbent'," he remarked.

According to the Daily Beast, Watters' comment probably won't provoke a response from Harris, the first Black woman to hold the office.

However, Harris did clap back a few years ago when it became fashionable among right-wing circles to intentionally mispronounce her first name.

Social media slams Watters' criticism of Harris' DEI efforts

Jesse Watters' stance on Harris' DEI efforts has been widely slammed as 'racist' on social media.

One viewer expressed, "These people’s lives are at an extreme that is way beyond the pale."

Another viewer shared, "Watters says the racist parts right out loud, on air."

One viewer pointed out, "The racism is a feature, not a bug."

A follower observed, "Wow. That's quite a few racist remarks in just 25 seconds."

One comment stated, "When will the Racism End????"

Another comment read, "This punk propagandist @JesseBWatters.  PAID LIAR!"

"Jess Watters is one of the biggest grifting, racist crisis actors out there. It’s like listening to an evangelical pastor. All bullshit and getting paid.," explained an individual.
