WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden convened his Cabinet on Friday, September 20, marking the first meeting of its kind in nearly a year.

The meeting also included First Lady Jill Biden who joined her husband at the head table. It was the first Cabinet gathering since October 2, 2023.



 

Jill Biden addresses White House women's health research initiative

During the session, Jill Biden addressed a White House initiative focused on advancing women’s health research.

Moments into the meeting, President Joe Biden handed the microphone over to Jill.

"This is the first time Jill has joined us," he said, before inviting her to share her thoughts on the matter. He then added, "I’d like to turn it over to Jill for any comments she has. It’s all yours, kid."



 

During the meeting, the first lady took the opportunity to discuss the White House's ongoing efforts to advance women's health research.

President Joe Biden also addressed pressing international issues, including the growing tensions between Israel and Lebanon.

He assured Cabinet members that the administration continues working to ensure the safety of civilians in both regions.

“We're continuing to try to do what we've tried from the beginning. To make sure that both the people in northern Israel, as well as southern Lebanon, are able to go back to their homes and go back safely," Joe Biden said, according to Fox News.

Biden also responded to questions regarding the possibility of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

"If I ever said 'it's not realistic' we might as well leave. A lot of things don't look realistic until we get them done. We have to keep at it," Biden said.

Internet expresses outrage over Jill Biden’s role in Cabinet meeting

The inclusion of Jill Biden at the meeting led to huge backlash online with many taking to social media platforms to voice their concerns.

One individual on X (formerly Twitter) remarked, "This is nuts. Who is running the country?! Absolutely NO ONE elected Jill Biden."

The sentiment was echoed by another, who wrote, "What is this? Can you imagine the uproar if Melania was in that seat?"

Others speculated on Jill Biden’s influence within the administration. "I've felt Jill Biden has been running the country for a while now... & I'm sure I am not alone in this belief," said another user.

One expressed their view, writing, "Jill does NOT want to give up power. She is pissed about the coup."

Another commented, "Who voted for her? We’re on a whole new level now!"
