Jimmy Carter becomes oldest person to be nominated for Grammy Award at 100
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jimmy Carter has made history by becoming the oldest Grammy Award nominee.
The 100-year-old former president, who has been in hospice care for almost two years, was nominated for his 10th Grammy Award in the Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling Recording category for his spoken-word album, 'Last Sundays in the Plains: A Centennial Celebration', as per People.
Carter, who served one presidential term from 1977 to 1981, celebrated his 100th birthday on October 1. He is the first former president to reach the age of 100 and is currently the oldest among the six living presidents.

Previously, producer Kabir Sehgal told Georgia Public Broadcasting that the project "is really a final culmination of President Carter's Sunday school lessons for years, for decades. He taught Sunday school at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains."
The multi-Grammy winner also revealed that since Carter's health was deteriorating, he along with his grandson, Jason Carter, "decided to embark upon this project of setting President Carter's last Sunday school sermons to music."
"And it's taken a lot of time, effort, love to put this project together, but we hope that these final words are something that inspires generations for years to come," added Sehgal.
'Last Sundays in Plains: A Centennial Celebration', which includes 10 tracks, debuted in late August.
Jimmy Carter has won three Grammy Awards
The humanitarian had earlier received nine nominations in the Best Spoken Word Album category, winning three times for 'Faith: A Journey For All' (2018), 'A Full Life: Reflections at Ninety' (2015), and 'Our Endangered Values: America's Moral Crisis' (2005).
Apart from Carter, Dolly Parton’s ‘Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones’, George Clinton's ‘...And Your Ass Will Follow’, Barbra Streisand's ‘My Name Is Barbra’, and Guy Oldfield's ‘All You Need Is Love: The Beatles in Their Own Words’ have also been nominated in the same category.
Jason Carter on grandfather Jimmy Carter's hospice stay
In February 2023, Jimmy Carter entered hospice care alongside his wife of 77 years, Rosalynn Carter, at his home in Plains, Georgia.
Jason told People in September 2023, "These last several months have been surprising for all of us, but it's been a real blessing."
"Both because there's been so much additional time that we've all gotten to spend together, but also because it's given us this ability to reflect on our personal relationships and experience the outpouring from around the world for him and for [Rosalynn] and for them as a couple," added the former Georgia state senator.
Rosalynn died at the age of 96 in November 2023.
Ahead of his grandfather's 100th birthday, Jason shared, "It’s been 19 months since he went into hospice, and he’s really in the same situation. And all of us are amazed by the longevity of this period for him, this period of reflection for us and for everyone else," as per 11Alive.
The 49-year-old added, "But there’s still been virtually no change at all. And we’re still just excited to have as much of him as we do."
