Jimmy Fallon humorously declares winners of fourth GOP debate
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: Jimmy Fallon playfully crowned winners of the recent GOP debate on the December 7 episode of 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon'. The fourth GOP debate took place on Wednesday, December 6, at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa.
According to Fallon, the winners were Nikki Haley, Chris Christie, and "everyone who decided not to watch" the debate.
Fallon also took a playful jibe at the recent debate, that was hosted by NewsNation and aired on The CW, highlighting the shift in prominence.
Jimmy Fallon calls fourth GOP debate 'kind of crazy'
Fallon said, "Last night in Alabama, four candidates took the stage for another Republican presidential debate. Yep. The big winners from the night were Nikki Haley, Chris Christie, and everyone who decided not to watch."
He then continued, "Yeah, last night was the fourth Republican debate. At this point, it's kind of like 'Indiana Jones' movies. Three was enough. You know what I'm saying?"
Jimmy Fallon mentioned that the recent Republican debate was considered "kind of crazy". He highlighted the moment when Vivek Ramaswamy held up a sign that said "Nikki=corrupt."
Fallon jokingly downplayed the controversy, joking that it would have been controversial if the sign said something else such as "hot dog = sandwich."
While NewsNation achieved its highest audience with 1.6 million total viewers and 350,000 viewers in the 25-54 adult demographic,
Fallon previously humorously remarked on the debates' evolving platforms on the Tuesday, December 5 episode, saying, "These debates started on Fox News and NBC, and now they’re on The CW. I’m hearing the next debate will just be shown on the little screen of a gas pump off the Jersey turnpike".
The fourth GOP debate was 'a remarkable achievement for a cable news network'
As per reports, NewsNation and The CW collectively attracted an average total viewer count of over four million during the simulcast of the Republican presidential primary debate on Wednesday, based on Nielsen figures.
The debate, held at the University of Alabama on December 6 and moderated by Megyn Kelly, NewsNation anchor Elizabeth Vargas, and The Washington Free Beacon's editor-in-chief Eliana Johnson, was broadcast on Nexstar Media Group's national cable news network, NewsNation.
Simultaneously, it was aired on The CW and livestreamed on NewsNation's website as well as on Rumble. The collaboration resulted in a substantial viewership for the event.
Sean Compton, President of Networks for Nexstar Media, expressed, "NewsNation was incredibly honored to host last night’s debate, and we are very pleased that so many viewers tuned in and watched".
He continued, "This debate represents a remarkable achievement for a cable news network that is just barely three years old. We’re very proud of the NewsNation team, the great job done by the moderators, and the overall production. In the end, the real winners last night were the nation’s voters," per The Wrap.
