LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a recent social media post, Jimmy Fallon treated followers to a throwback clip of a stand-up comedy routine by Fumi Abe.

The segment sheds light on Abe's comical perspective about wealth, New York's exorbitant expenses, and his bemusement over friends with affluent backgrounds.

Navigating the financial maze of New York city: Fumi Abe's comedic take

During the stand-up set, Abe hilariously dissected the challenges of financial stability in New York City.

He openly addressed the parental influence on career choices and financial constraints.

"There is no money in comedy," Abe humorously laments, citing his parents' concerns about sustaining a livelihood in an expensive city. "We think you're gonna look back 10 years from now and say to yourself, 'Where did my career go wrong?'" he sarcastically mimicked his parents' concerns.

Insights on wealth and backgrounds in the arts scene: Fumi Abe's comic observations

Abe's revelation took an amusing turn as he observed his friends' lifestyles, notably those whose affluent backgrounds seemingly cushioned their expenses.

He pointed out how many young artists, musicians, and comedians in the city were supported financially by their well-off parents, a contrast to his immigrant upbringing.

"I realized they're not rich because they're famous or successful. They're rich because their parents are rich, right?" Abe exclaimed, drawing laughter from the audience.

He jokingly contemplated confronting his own parents about their lack of wealth: "If I meet one more person like that, I'm going to have to sit my parents down and have a little talk with them about where their careers went wrong."

Financial contrasts and rice ball humor

The humor didn't stop there; Abe amusingly compared his financial choices to those of his more well-to-do friends.

"Like, recently, I did this corporate show with my two comedian friends. We made a lot of money. We're talking about how we spent this money. And I found out one of my friends put a down payment on a Tesla. The other guy bought two Rolex watches. And they looked at me and they're like, 'Fumi, how did you spend that money?'"

"And I was thinking about it. And I'm not making this up. The only thing I started doing with that money is, I just started buying, like, the nicer rice at the grocery store. Yeah. You know that premium one that's like 10 more dollars than the one you typically buy? Isn't that sad?"

"Like, literally, my comedian friends are prancing around in their Gucci loafers, and I'm just eating a rice ball at lunch, being like, 'Notice anything different?'"

The clip shared by Fallon captures Abe's adeptness in turning personal experiences into laugh-out-loud moments.
