MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: 2023 is ending on a good note with Jimmy Kimmel announcing the nominees for the Clip of the Year, featuring memorable clips from the past year.

The winner? It's "Mudding the Lawn" featuring a dog mowing the lawn.



 

'I want to thank all our finalists' 

Kimmel started the episode saying, "Every December we dive into our archives we dig through all the most memorable Clips we've shared on this show over the past 12 months"

"We whittle them down until we've got the best of the best the cream of the crop and even though we lost five months this year to a writer's strike. We've got quite an impressive group of contenders tonight one of those contenders will be crowned clip of the year," he added. 

The nominees were: 'Crank Call Roll Call'; 'Boy Meets Squirrel'; 'Homophobook'; 'Mutting The Lawn'; 'C-Spank'; 'Happy Birthday To Who'.

In the end, Kimmel said, "Every one of these clips deserves a trophy but only one can be called clip of the year and the clip of the year for 2023 is........oh my goodness!! 'Mutting the lawn'". 

The video shows a dog sitting on a lawn mower, appearing to be driving it, while a person films the scene and laughs in the background 

Kimmel then presented a make-do award to a dog named Ruckus for mowing lawns. He expressed humor in calling Ruckus the "mowing mud himself" and a "very good boy."

Ending the episode, the host said, "I want to thank all our finalists" and clip researchers for their dedication in finding clips of dogs mowing lawns throughout the year, adding a humorous note about divine mercy for their souls.

'Doggone it!'

The impressive group of contenders for Clip of the Year 2023 got several comments from 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' fans. 

One wrote, "How I love Jimmy Kimmel! He gives me hope for mankind and our planet’s ability to persevere".

'Jimmy Kimmel Live' was airing weeknights at 11:35 pm ET on ABC. Reportedly, the episodes for the week of January 1-5 will be reruns.
