Jimmy Kimmel labeled 'loser' as he tells UCLA women’s basketball team to give Trump a 'fake trophy'
WASHINGTON, DC: Show host Jimmy Kimmel, during a group interview on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' on Tuesday, April 7, spoke with the UCLA national championship women’s basketball team.
During the conversation, Kimmel asked the players to present a “fake trophy” to President Donald Trump. This did not go over well with many viewers, and they didn't leave any stone unturned to bash the show host.
Trump and Kimmel are known to have a history of public criticism toward each other. Still, many people felt that bringing politics into a sports interview was unnecessary.
Jimmy Kimmel mocks Trump during interview with UCLA team
During the interview, Jimmy Kimmel spoke with UCLA women’s basketball players Lauren Betts, Kiki Rice, Gabriela Jaquez, Angela Dugalić, and head coach Cori Close on Tuesday, April 7, and the conversation shifted into political territory.
After Kimmel pointed out that former President Barack Obama had shared a congratulatory post about the team’s championship, he asked whether President Donald Trump had made contact. The players responded with “no.”
Kimmel then took the discussion further and made a remark aimed at Trump. “I’m sure you know he’s busy. Um, he’s in two weeks, you’ll hear from him,” Jimmy Kimmel said. “In the event that you do get invited to the White House and you decide to go to the White House, I have something for you.”
He went on to present a silver trophy that looked different from the NCAA championship trophy on his desk. “What I want you to do is bring this fake trophy we’ve made to the White House. He’s not going to know. But when you bring a trophy, he sometimes takes it and keeps it for himself."
"So, this is for you guys to take to the White House. And then you can say, ‘President Trump, we want you to have this.’ And he’ll be so happy. You’ll probably get an endowment, and you’ll be able to keep the real one,” Kimmel said.
Social media slams Jimmy Kimmel for political turn in sports interview
Meanwhile, social media users criticized Kimmel for turning the sports interview into a Trump-focused rant. "Jimmy Kimmel interviewed the NCAA champion @ucla women’s basketball team, and of course he had to unnecessarily bring in politics and take a few lame swipes. My take as a proud Bruin alum—rolled my eyes at the left-wing media shenanigans, appreciated the ladies for keeping it classy, disappointed that @POTUS has not reached out in any capacity," shared one user.

On the YouTube comment section, someone shared, "All was good until making it awkward and ending on Trump. Let it be about them and their win. It’s like ending it with Geno and his fiasco."
Another viewer said, "Jimmy just can’t help himself and has to mention Trump or toss in something political. Honestly I used to really enjoy the show but he’s just gotten so insufferable with his political takes it’s hard to sit through. Either way, congrats to the lady Bruins! A very well deserved championship and some wonderful women"
