Jimmy Kimmel’s staff revolt over his 's****y' behavior as host's ABC comeback turns chaotic

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Chaos erupted behind the scenes of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' on Tuesday, September 23, as the host made his dramatic return to air, leaving staff on edge and unsure of what he might say next.
Tensions soared as writers and producers threatened to walk out unless Kimmel addressed his controversial remarks about Charlie Kirk's killing. The fallout had already forced the 57-year-old comedian off the air for a week, following public outrage and an FCC warning.
Source reveals backstage chaos on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'

A source close to 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' told the Daily Mail that the team would feel deeply betrayed if Kimmel caved to pressure from network executives and failed to take a strong stance in his first on-air remarks.
"It's chaos," the insider said just five hours before the show was set to tape. "No one knows what Jimmy is going to say, but there are rumblings that if he apologizes, there will be a walkout."
The team, according to the source, believes an apology would signal a complete reversal on what they had all agreed upon behind the scenes.
"If he grovels or falls on his sword, that’s actually a betrayal to all of us. It will feel like he doesn’t have our back. I know that could save us our jobs, but that’s not the point. We were all in agreement about the things he said we all felt that they were appropriate, and if he walks them back, that would invalidate what we had all discussed."
Insiders say apology would betray team’s shared stance

While the source acknowledged that protecting Kimmel’s career is important, they insisted it shouldn’t come at the cost of integrity.
"And now the decision is being made over our heads, with none of our input. We don’t know what’s going to happen, and that feels s**t."
They pushed back against the public outrage, saying the comments had been mischaracterised.
"Look, I understand if he had said that Charlie Kirk deserved to get shot in the neck, but he didn’t. He didn’t say any of that at all. And we all talked about how to be respectful while still saying what needed to be said." The frustration was palpable.

"It’s annoying because we tried so hard. So yeah, if Jimmy grovels, he undoes all that and we are all going to be pissed." Rumors swirled backstage that Kimmel might issue some form of apology or expression of regret, which the team sees as the same.
As the hours ticked down before filming, the mood remained tense: "Everyone’s talking, but trying not to talk, and there are some people, including our EP (executive producer), who don’t want us to talk about it."
Disney announces 'Jimmy Kimmel Live's return to air

Disney announced on Monday, September 21, that 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' would return to air on Tuesday night. “Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” the company said in a statement.
But Kimmel’s comeback hit a major roadblock as more than 70 ABC affiliate stations confirmed they would not broadcast Tuesday’s episode.
Nexstar, owner of 32 ABC stations, joined Sinclair in pulling the show, further escalating the backlash. A senior executive from a competing network told the Daily Mail that an apology from Kimmel is expected.
“If he were on our network, we’d definitely want him to be somewhat conciliatory,” the executive said. “I’m not saying he has to beg for forgiveness, but talk about unity and togetherness and reiterate that we send condolences to Charlie Kirk's family.” The source added, “I assume that Disney and ABC are going to require that. It only makes sense.”
