WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden criticized former president Donald Trump’s speech at the Republican National Convention, asserting that Trump offered a “dark vision for the future.”

Biden maintained his determination to stay in the 2024 race despite growing calls from within his party for him to step aside. He said Trump's speech focused more on his own greviances and that he wants to rule as a dictator.

Joe Biden said people had rejected Donald Trump four years ago

Biden said Trump's speech offered a glimpse of his same old version that people have previously rejected, suggesting he has no plans to make life better for people and unify the country.

“Last night the American people saw the same Donald Trump they rejected four years ago. For over 90 minutes, he focused on his own grievances, with no plan to unite us and no plan to make life better for working people,” Biden said in a statement.

Biden's comments come amid increasing pressure from Democratic members to drop out of the race.

Senator Martin Heinrich (NM) became the third Democratic senator to urge Biden to step aside. As of now, four House Democrats have issued a joint statement urging the president to end his reelection bid.

Joe Biden reaffirms his commitment to run the race and 'defeat' Donald Trump at ballot box

Biden said that he looks forward to returning to the campaign trail next week to expose the threat of Trump’s Project 2025 agenda while making the case for his own record and vision for America.

“Donald Trump’s dark vision for the future is not who we are as Americans. Together, as a party and as a country, we can and will defeat him at the ballot box," said Biden.

Biden is currently isolating at his Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, home after testing positive for Covid-19 while campaigning in Las Vegas, according to The Hill.

He expressed confidence in his ability to win again, stating, “I look forward to getting back on the campaign trail next week to continue exposing the threat of Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda while making the case for my own record and the vision that I have for America: one where we save our democracy, protect our rights and freedoms, and create opportunity for everyone.”

"The stakes are high, and the choice is clear. Together, we will win," he added.

Biden accused Trump of avoiding mention of his Project 2025 agenda but still flaunting the worst of MAGA extremism.

“Americans know exactly where he wants to take this country. They know that he inflicted pain and cruelty on the women of America by overturning Roe v Wade. They know that he destroyed our economy once and will inflict pain on the middle class, that he wants to gut the checks and balances of our Constitution and rule as a dictator on day one,” Biden added in the statement.

Internet reacts to Joe Biden's statement criticising Donald Trump's RNC speech

Online reactions to Biden's statement have been varied. Some suggest that Biden may not have listened to the speech while others have called on him to either stay or withdraw from the race.

"Great statement and I’m glad you are still in the race. You’re the right candidate to defeat Trump!" stated one while another wrote, "What the heck was he watching? Trump seemed more tame and humble than ever."

Some called for Biden to stay in the race while others urged him to drop out.

"STAY IN THE RACE BIDEN" wrote one with another urged him to "DROP OUT PAL"

One suggested that Biden's prospects of winning were bleak as he had to depend on certain statements to gain political mileage.

"The fact that you feel the need to address it, means you're losing :)" wrote one.

"Not quite sure why a statement was even necessary. And let us not forget that you were the one who said you were going to unify the country…. And never made one ounce of effort to do so," wrote one more.

"Joe defiantly did not listen to Donnie’s speech, nice try though" one user mocked Biden's assertion and analysis of  the speech," another said.

One user wrote, "All I want to hear from him is I am dropping out."
