WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden served up more than just Brussels sprouts during a Coast Guard 'Friendsgiving' on Staten Island—he also indulged in some self-deprecating humor about his age and his status as a lame-duck president.

At 82, Biden has long been the oldest president in US history — and he’s not shying away from poking fun at himself as he nears the end of his time in the Oval Office.

Joe Biden says he's been 'fired'

Joe Biden spent nearly 50 minutes dishing out Thanksgiving food to Coast Guard members and their families before dropping a lighthearted announcement. “I’ve just been told I’ve been fired,” he quipped.

Though it sounded dramatic, he was just joking about being relieved from serving dinner—apparently, it was time for him to head back to the White House.

But given all the political drama earlier this year — when members of his party urged him to step aside after a rough debate performance in June — the comment carried some extra weight.

Biden brushed it off by saying that he didn’t want to hold up traffic any longer.

“They set a time for how long we’re going to be somewhere. And then what they do is they close all the roads—the Secret Service does,” he explained, before adding a zinger: “If you want to lose all support for your Coast Guard and no one will ever vote for me again, I better get the hell out of here.”

Football stories and love for kids

Before the turkey and trimmings hit the table, Joe Biden kicked things off with another one of his classic “back in my day” stories.

"I hadn't planned on saying this, but I was thinking about this when I was coming up. I was a pretty good football player in high school, but my quarterback was all-state as well. He came along and he ended up being a quarterback for the Coast Guard Academy," Biden said.

“In 1912,” he joked, drawing big laughs from the crowd.

The Bidens have made a tradition of spending the Monday before Thanksgiving with US service members, and this marked their last one as president and first lady.

Even when small children interrupted their speeches with screams and cries, Biden took it in stride. “Kids are screaming, hollering, and crying. We’re Bidens. We’re used to it,” he said with a grin.

Biden also made it clear he’s a fan of babies, reminding parents that he likes "kids better than people” and even teasing that he might stop by their tables to chat.

Luckily, there was no Halloween-style “baby nibbling” this time around, though Biden did sneak a few dinner rolls as he served the military families their Thanksgiving meal.

The dinner, cooked by celebrity chef Robert Irvine, featured a menu designed for the occasion—including Biden’s favorite dessert: ice cream. In between serving and posing for selfies with attendees, Biden managed to snag some rolls and soak in the warm atmosphere.

Biden trolled on social media after being 'fired'

However, the outgoing president was trolled by Daily Mail readers for saying he was "fired" from handing out dinner servings.

"Joe should be serving meals in a federal prison cafeteria," one posted in the comments section.

"It sounds like, in this instance at least, he is joking about his advanced age," another wrote.

"It’s almost like he’s in on the joke, now," someone else offered.

"Joe Biden would not even make a good food server," read a comment.

"I can't even laugh at him. He has basically destroyed our country," another chimed in.

Off to Nantucket

After wrapping up Friendsgiving, the Bidens returned to the White House Monday night. The first family is set to spend Thanksgiving in Nantucket, their long-standing holiday tradition.

They’ll be joined by their family and are scheduled to leave Tuesday, returning Saturday before Biden departs Sunday for a trip to Angola.

Earlier that day, Biden carried out another presidential tradition as he pardoned two turkeys named Peach and Blossom in what marked his final turkey pardon as commander-in-chief, the Daily Mail reported.
