Joe Manganiello recalls friend’s offer to abduct Sofia Vergara’s ex Nick Loeb
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Joe Manganiello has revealed that a close friend once offered to abduct and assault Nick Loeb, Sofia Vergara’s former boyfriend, following his legal battle with the actress over their frozen embryos.
In his new memoir, 'Bloodlines,' Manganiello explained why he rejected the offer while discussing his marriage to Vergara, his seven-year battle with an autoimmune disease and her recent social media posts following revelations in the book.
Joe Manganiello reveals why he rejected offer to abduct Nick Loeb
In 'Bloodlines,' Manganiello recalled that a close friend with high-level contacts in the private security world offered to have Loeb abducted, blindfolded, tied up and driven into a wooded area, where he would be warned, beaten severely and left to fend for himself.
The actor admitted that his protective instincts initially prevented him from dismissing the offer immediately. However, after thinking it through, he decided against it because he feared karmic consequences, including imprisonment in this life or something worse in the next.
“I said, ‘Thank you, but no thank you,’ to that generous offer,” Manganiello wrote. He also recalled informing Vergara that if they ever encountered Loeb in public, they would have to leave immediately because he did not know whether he could resist punching him.
Vergara dated Loeb from 2010 to 2014. In 2016, the businessman sued the 'Modern Family' actress in Louisiana through a right-to-live lawsuit concerning the embryos they had frozen during their relationship. The case was dismissed for lack of personal jurisdiction.
Manganiello and Vergara married in 2015 and separated in 2023, and following revelations in his memoir, Vergara shared two posts on social media. On October 9, she reshared a post by her son, Manolo Vergara, comparing a good man with a narcissistic man.
The message stated that a narcissist would resent what others did for them, never feel satisfied and attempt to portray them as the villain. She also reposted a quote originally shared by Tom Brady about the ability to laugh at oneself being a sign of intelligence and the inability to do so indicating that someone might be an idiot.
Joe Manganiello details his autoimmune disease and its impact on his marriage
Manganiello, who is now engaged to Caitlin O’Connor, addressed the posts on CBS Mornings on October 12. He said people should read the book and understand its subject, explaining that it was about the suffering he experienced rather than what the social media posts appeared to suggest.
Throughout 'Bloodlines,' Manganiello describes his seven-year struggle with an autoimmune disease that caused agonizing abdominal pain as his digestive tract ulcerated, along with fevers, rashes, headaches, fatigue and rectal bleeding.
He became ill not long after getting engaged to Vergara in 2014. Over the following seven years, he lost 60 pounds, underwent numerous colonoscopies and had multiple surgeries.
In 2016, he required emergency removal of his large intestine, leaving him temporarily dependent on an ostomy bag. He credited Vergara with making the “brutal but life-saving decision” while he was under anaesthesia.
Manganiello wrote that Vergara eventually began seeing him more as a patient than a partner. He also recalled becoming excited after learning he had been considered for a villain role in a Batman movie directed by Ben Affleck.
Vergara, however, “freaked out,” assuming something was wrong. Affleck passed the project to Matt Reeves in 2017, changing the earlier casting plans. Manganiello wrote that Vergara had been “preparing for me to die” and was deeply traumatised by the fear of losing him. He also explained that his prolonged illness left their marriage “devoid of any emotionality whatsoever.”
