WASHINGTON, DC: In a sharp critique of President Joe Biden's recent press conference, former US Ambassador to the UN and National Security Advisor John Bolton took a swipe at the president's resolve to stay in the 2024 election.

John Bolton argued on CNN with Jim Acosta, that Biden's message to the Democratic Party was essentially leading them to inevitable defeat.

John Bolton likened Joe Biden's message to telling Democrats to ‘suit up' and follow him off a cliff, suggesting that sticking with Biden as their nominee would result in significant losses for the party.

"The message that President Biden basically gave to the Democratic Party yesterday evening was ‘Suit up, lemmings! I’m going off the edge of the cliff and you’re coming with me now!'” he said according to Mediate.

Bolton's comments come amid growing calls from congressional Democrats and donors for Biden to drop out of the presidential race, fearing his leadership could jeopardize the party's success in upcoming elections.

The political commentator further warned that sticking with Biden as the nominee would not only lead to a potential victory of Donald Trump but also bolster Republican ranks in Congress.

"If that’s what the Democrats want to do, you know, they will elect Trump. They’ll also help elect a lot more Republican senators and House members," Bolton predicted.

"There is nobody who can guarantee that that debate failure or something similar to it will not occur in September or October, and everybody knows that," he said.

John Bolton warns Democrats of potential defeat under Joe Biden's nomination

The ex-US Ambassador to the UN continued his critique by highlighting the lack of options for Democrats if they continue to support Joe Biden.

"At that point, the Democrats will not have any option. They will be stuck. They will be tied to the mast of Biden’s ship as it goes down,” he said.

He highlighted the consequences of maintaining Biden as the nominee. “This is their last clear chance to do anything,” Bolton said.

“And all I can say is if they leave Biden as the nominee and Trump wins, I think Trump has an obligation in his victory speech election night to thank Biden and the Democrats for nominating him.”

Bolton, who has been a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump, reiterated his stance on social media, sharing another clip from CNN on X (formerly Twitter).

“Biden's press conference last night was, to be polite, another hopelessly subpar performance," he wrote.

"As I've said for some time, Biden is not fit to be president. It’s not enough to say of his distracted performance, ‘oh, that's just Biden as usual.’ It’s like Trump supporters saying of his off-the-wall remarks, ‘oh, that’s just Trump.’ Not acceptable from either of them.”

Internet says Democrats and Donald Trump are 'on the same page' over Joe Biden staying on the ticket

Reactions on social media were mixed with some suggesting that like Donald Trump, most of the Democrats want Joe Biden to remain in the presidential race.

One user wrote, "Ironically I think most Dems and Trump are ‘on the same page’… they want Biden to stay in the race.”

Another commented, "Pretty sure no one has cared what Bolton has thought about anything since he nuked his own career. Why dig him back up? Desperate?"

Further comments included, "To be fair, John Bolton is despised in most places. And yet, he still shows up."

One wrote, "Agreed, both are woeful candidates."

Another defended Biden, stating, "Ridiculous. His detailed answers on foreign policy were better than Trump could ever dream of doing. You sound like someone who wrote his response before seeing the press conference."
