John Cena follows a whopping 950,000 random accounts on X and his explanation will surprise you
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: John Cena's account on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) stands apart from those of other global celebrities, as he follows over 950,000 users from various walks of life as of January 30, 2025.
According to Unilad, the WWE-turned-Hollywood star's behavior is in stark contrast with other celebrities who typically tend to follow a select few accounts, or even in some cases, none at all.
Cena, 47, has almost 14.5 million followers himself, with his bio reading, "A forum of thoughts and perspectives designed to ignite conversations and actions leading to growth, and occasional self-promotion. #NeverGiveUp #RiseAboveHate".
On the other hand, Cena has nearly 21 million followers on Instagram but follows no one on the platform.

John Cena's explanation for following thousands on X
'Peacemaker' star John Cena shared an explanation for following a massive number of users on X during an interview with television host and podcast wrestling expert Chris Van Vliet in 2024.
Vliet asked Cena about the stunning disparity between the number of people he followed on Instagram and X, to which he replied, "Because Instagram is an interpretive exercise. I don't want to lead the witness by following anyone."
"Because if I follow Bill Gates," he explained, "OK, well, this is curating the experience for me and I may feel a certain way about Bill Gates so I feel a certain way about these images."
On the subject of X, he noted, "Twitter is a conversation starter and how do you start a conversation? Follow everyone, people you know nothing about, walks of life you know nothing about, people that don't share your views, people who speak out harshly against your value system, people who live within your value system, follow everyone because then people can engage with, 'Hey I was thinking this today'... Go for it."
When Vliet noted that it made people's day to see Cena follow them, the actor shared, "There's a little shred of gravity in that too."
He went on to share that he picks the accounts to follow by noting the blue verification sign. "If you got a blue check mark, that's a go-to for me. You're in and I want you in the conversation," he said.
Cena further noted in another interview that he will continue to follow 1,000 people a day for the foreseeable future.
