Kinard expressed her deep sorrow and the family’s desire for justice on the GoFundMe page.
"My heart is utterly broken," she wrote, adding that "somehow we NEED justice for Johnny!" She hopes that the killer will be arrested, which she believes may bring some closure to the family.
“With God‘s will the killer will be arrested and the family will see him face to face. This may help bring closure to this tragedy,” Kinard added.
Johnny Wactor was fatally shot after finishing a bartending shift in Downtown Los Angeles.
According to his brother Grant, Johnny encountered three men attempting to steal a catalytic converter from his car.
Mistaking the situation for his truck being towed, Johnny approached the men and asked, "Hey, are you towing?" Realizing what was happening, he placed his female co-worker behind him for protection, at which point he was shot.
“He came across them and he thought his truck was being towed. So he said something to the guys, like, ‘Hey, are you towing?’” Grant Wactor told the Daily Mail.
“And then once he turned around, he saw what was happening and he put his coworker behind him. And that’s when they shot him.”
Wactor was known for his role as Brando Corbin on the ABC soap opera 'General Hospital', where he appeared from 2020 to 2022. The GoFundMe campaign notes that any excess donations will be given to charities chosen by the family in Johnny's memory, ensuring his legacy supports causes important to him.
